Sign Up: On Kim Schrier’s webpage for this date
Why: This is a Federal race in our own backyard that we need to win. Olympia Indivisible supports Kim Schrier for US Congress. We need her to be re-elected to continue a pro-democracy majority in the US House of Representatives.

Go Doorbelling with Derek Sanders
What: OI-endorsed Thurston County Sheriff candidate Derek has been out knocking on doors daily, and he can use all the help he can get.
When and Where: If you are able to come out and help Derek with the door-knocking activities, please reach out to Derek about the details on the door-knocking. He typically hits a different area in Thurston County every day, so it's crucial to make sure to contact him about where he is door-knocking on that day.
How: You can reach Derek via email at [email protected], or by phone at 360-836-0323.

Help Tye Menser Get Signs up on Right-of-Ways
What: Tye needs volunteers to pick up batches of 10 campaign signs and put them up on right-of-ways in your neighborhood and/or other parts of Thurston County.
How: Email Tye’s manager, Rob Richards, at [email protected] and tell Rob you’ll do it.

New Postcards Supporting Our Neighbors in CD3
What: Help write postcards to get out the vote for Marie Glusenkamp Perez to inconsistent Dem voters in CD3 (to be mailed on Oct. 21). We have cards, addresses, instructions/script and some stamps. What do we need? Writers! Email [email protected] to find out how to get these cards.
Why: In Congressional District 3 (just south of us), GOP candidate Joe Kent is an election-denier, replacement conspiracy theorist, federal abortion ban supporter who cozies up with Nazis and Holocaust deniers. He is running against pro-democracy, reproductive rights supporter Marie Glusenkamp Perez.

Yard Signs for Patty Murray, Derek Sanders, Steve Hobbs, Beth Doglio, and Jessica Bateman

Local Actions:

Halt the Major Airport Proposal in Thurston County
New Action to Our Commissioners

Picture

Background: South Thurston County Viewed As Possible Location for Second Major Washington Airport

Locations
There are two potential locations chosen for an airport in Thurston County.
  • One location is a circle from the Olympia Airport east toward JBLM (Thurston County Central), and
  • The other is a circle southeast of Grand Mounds and towards Tenino (Thurston County South).

“Greenfield” Airport
These sites pose danger to publicly conserved green spaces and species listed by the U.S. or Washington state as threatened or endangered. A greenfield airport is one that is built from scratch on a new (undeveloped) site. It means a project that does not have any constraints imposed by prior work.

Action: Email the Board of County Commissioners to make an appeal to the Planning Commission for emergency zoning that would prevent locating a “greenfield” airport in Thurston County.

Option A: Take this one click action in Take Action Network (TAN) Stop the Greenfield Airport in Thurston County

Option B: Email [email protected]

Subject: Proposed Mega Airport

Script: I am asking the Board of County Commissioners (BoCC) to make an appeal to the Planning Commission for emergency zoning that would prevent locating a “greenfield” airport in Thurston County. I have heard that the Planning Commission refuses to bring this forward and they may respond to a direct request from the BoCC.

These are my concerns:

  • For Thurston County Central: The site evaluation on the Commercial Aviation Coordinating Committee (CACC) website does not take into consideration Wolf Haven International, rare mounded and other rare prairie lands that would be destroyed, and the site's proximity to historic Millersylvania State Park.

  • For Thurston County South: The CACC website’s evaluation of this site doesn't note that an airport there would destroy the peace of historic Millersylvania State Park and obliterate the State West Rocky Prairie Wildlife Area with its rare prairie habitat and dozens of plant and animal species at risk of extinction. These species include golden paintbrush, which is listed as threatened with extinction under the federal Endangered Species Act; the Mazama pocket gopher and the Oregon spotted frog, both of which are on state and federal lists; as well as 15 species of butterfly of state and federal concern.

Sincerely,

[NAME] from [CITY]
