Quote of the Week:

Cause-and-effect assumes history marches forward, but history is not an army. It is a crab scuttling sideways, a drip of soft water wearing away stone, an earthquake breaking centuries of tension. – Rebecca Solnit, Looking Into Darkness

Local Actions:

Marilyn Strickland Talks to South Sound Indivisibles

Picture
Thank you, Representative Strickland for your Q&A session, with Indivisible.

Rep. Strickland was especially frank when answering questions. Topics included
  • The proposed airport for Pierce or Thurston County,
  • the Republicans' intended assaults on Social Security and Medicare,
  • weapon sales to Saudi Arabia,
  • options to combat the politicization of the U.S. Supreme Court,
  • housing in the South Sound area.

We were all very impressed with Rep. Strickland’s responsiveness and demeanor which we want you to see for yourself in this video of the Q&A session.

Federal Actions:

Stop Private Insurers from Labeling Themselves as ‘Medicare’

Picture

Consumers are confused when companies use the term “Medicare” to advertise private health insurance. The “Save Medicare Act”,
H.R. 9187 will stop companies from using the term “Medicare” in their advertisements.

Background
  • Pocan, Khanna Introduce Bill to Strengthen Medicare, Define Alternative Plans
  • New Bill Would Ban Private Insurance Plans From Using 'Medicare' Name

Action:  Ask our Representative to co-sponsor H.R. 9187

Option A: Take this copy/paste action in Take Action Network (TAN) Stop Private Insurers from Labeling Themselves as ‘Medicare’

Option B: Contact your Representative
  • Marilyn Strickland, Phone: 202-225-9740 or Contact Form

Script: I am asking Rep. Strickland to co-sponsor The “Save Medicare Act”, H.R. 9187.
‘Medicare Advantage’ is just private insurance that profits by denying coverage and the name is being used to trick seniors into enrolling. That’s not right,” said Rep. Khanna. “This bill will prevent these private insurers from labeling themselves as ‘Medicare’ and allow us to focus on strengthening and expanding real Medicare instead.”

Sincerely,
