Quote of the Week:
“With Thanksgiving around the corner, we wanted to take a moment to express our gratitude for all the amazing work Indivisibles have done this year.
Whether it’s showing up to town halls and school board meetings, writing countless letters-to-the-editor, joining phonebanks and text parties, or organizing rallies and protests, you make our movement possible, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.” –Indivisible National, 11-22-2023 email to members

WA State Actions:
Don’t Sign Any Initiatives!
From our friends at FUSE and Northwest Progressive Institute
Washington’s wealthiest MAGA donors have teamed up with the state Republican Party to launch a slate of regressive initiatives. Ultra-right Republican megadonor and multi-millionaire Brian Heywood is bankrolling these initiatives in a cynical effort to dodge the taxes he owes to our communities. Heywood is joined in this effort by his co-sponsors: Washington’s MAGA Republican Party Chair Jim Walsh, right-wing operative Glen Morgan and serial initiative con artist Tim Eyman. These are initiatives to the Legislature, and signatures are due at the end of the year.
Their initiatives would cut taxes for the ultra wealthy and let our biggest polluters off the hook. They would cut nearly $900 million from public schools and child care, while increasing Big Oil profits and rolling back our investments in clean energy. They would also repeal Washington’s capital gains tax, defund long term care for seniors, and more.
Actions: There’s 3 simple things we can do to help stop these initiatives now:
Here’s the initiatives and what they do:
Support the Audit the Pentagon Act
The U.S. spends more on war than the next 10 countries combined. We must have a proper accounting for our tax dollars.
H.R.2961 - Audit the Pentagon Act of 2023 provides that if a Department of Defense agency fails an audit, that agency's budget will be reduced by 0.5% that year and by 1% in subsequent years.
Action: Tell our MOCs to support Audit the Pentagon Act!
Remove LibsOfTikTok from Tech Platforms
From our friends at Democracy for America Advocacy Fund
We live in a time where acceptance and understanding should be at the forefront, but sadly, there are groups like LibsOfTikTok that spread hate, using social media as a breeding ground for bigotry and a launching pad for real-world violence.
LibsOfTikTok disseminates virulent anti-LGBTQ+ propaganda, cloaking bigotry in the guise of political commentary. Their social media posts deride, mock, and dehumanize individuals based on their sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression, creating an environment ripe for discrimination and harassment.
This group isn’t just about online trolling, their actions have led to real threats and violence, affecting many lives outside the digital world. In fact, they've been linked to potentially inciting 66 separate threat events, including terrifying bomb threats against LGBTQ+ supporters, occurring directly after one of their many hateful social media posts.
Thankfully, the social media platform TikTok recognized the danger and suspended LibsOfTikTok for breaking their rules against dangerous hate speech, misinformation and promotion of violence. The problem is they just moved to other social media sites and kept on going.
Now, it's time for Meta (Facebook, Instagram and Threads), Google (YouTube), and X (Twitter) to step up and do the same.
Action: Tell the CEOs of Meta, Google, and X that there's no place for hate and violence on their platforms by dropping the dangerous anti-LGBTQ+ hate group LibsOfTikTok Now!
Note: Make sure to edit your subscription preferences before signing on to the letter to avoid signing up for emails from a bunch of organizations!
Stop This Dangerous Law
Photo Credit: USDA Photo by: Charles O'Rear, Wikimedia Commons.
A dangerous new law could take away YEARS of work and hard fought victories to reign in pesticide use by taking away state’s rights to create stronger pesticide protections than the federal government.
If passed, it would overturn decades of precedent-setting Supreme Court rulings and could prevent state governments from tailoring laws to the specific needs of their communities.
The proposed legislation, the Agricultural Labeling Uniformity Act, would stop states and localities from establishing requirements on the use of pesticides that are more restrictive than those set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). It’s a dangerous attack on state and local authority and would cause significant harm by stopping States and localities from adopting pesticide laws that are more protective than federal rules.
We need to show Congress there is massive public opposition to this dangerous new law.
Action: Ask our U.S. Senators and U.S. Representative to oppose this pesticide preemption bill.
