Weekly Call To Action - March 24, 2024

3/23/2024

Quote of the Week:

“Being civically engaged is good for you. By staying engaged and involved in the political process, you retain agency over your own life and future. One example of using your agency is choosing to focus your energy not on worry, but taking meaningful action. However small they may seem, taking action contributes to shaping your world. --Jen Hoffman, Americans of Conscience, March 1, 2024

Federal Actions:

Help Needed Now for Biden to Win the Battleground State of Arizona

Sonoran desert with a saguaro cacti in the foreground.
National Indivisible considers Arizona to be the most critical battleground state in the 2024 elections. Biden will need all the Democratic votes he can possibly get in that state. However, fewer Democrats are registered to vote in Arizona than Republicans or Independents. There is a major effort underway now to register Democratic voters in Arizona, and you can help from here in Washington State. It’s easy, and it’s effective.

Olympia Indivisible members Kelly and Carla are offering two group training sessions on Zoom to teach you the basics of making calls to register voters in Arizona. They taught numerous phone bank trainings in the past with good success. All you need is a smartphone and a computer.

The dialing software masks your phone number and dials the calls for you. A script is provided. An added incentive is to register voters before July 3, which is the deadline for collecting signatures to place a constitutional abortion access amendment on the Arizona ballot this November. Only registered voters can sign the petitions. The abortion access issue is a crucial step for framing the election for Biden and driving turnout for the Democratic coalition.

Support the “Green New Deal” for Public Housing

  • Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez Rollout Green New Deal for Public Housing Act

  • 2021-22 version: Green New Deal for Public Housing

Ask your representatives to join Senator Sanders and Rep. Ocasio-Cortez and support the relaunch of their “Green New Deal for Public Housing”.

We need a massive federal investment that will finally provide American public housing communities with healthy, comfortable, energy-efficient homes—fighting racism, unemployment, the housing crisis, and the climate emergency at the same time and in the same places, and building out badly needed green community infrastructure

Learn About “People First” Redistricting Reform

State of Washington divided into legislative districts

Source:
Washington Indivisible Network (WIN)

Washington State may not be gerrymandered in the traditional sense, but it was made clear by the actions of the 2021 Redistricting Commission that we have bipartisan gerrymandering that does NOT serve the people of Washington.

Join Alison McCaffree, from the League of Women Voters, who will share the outcome of the Soto Palmer v Hobbs Federal lawsuit and the steps necessary to make comprehensive change to the redistricting process which will help us avoid to avoid bipartisan gerrymandering in the future and assure communities have the best chance to elect the representative of their choosing.

Action: Register HERE for Saturday April 6, 10:30am presentation on Zoom by Alison McCaffree.

Campaign Support – Skills Training

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) is offering a series of campaign trainings that are open to all of us.

The skills being taught are exactly what we all need to be able to do to improve our effectiveness as volunteers for campaign support for all our candidates in 2024.

Action: Register for the next event OWNING YOUR PERSONAL STORY: March 28 at 6:00pm
  • In the realm of field organizing, the significance of personal stories cannot be overstated. These narratives serve as compelling tools to mobilize communities, illustrating the real-world impact of policy decisions and galvanizing individuals to actively engage in grassroots movements. By weaving personal experiences into the fabric of political campaigns, organizers can create a sense of shared purpose and urgency, motivating volunteers and supporters to work collectively toward common goals and effect tangible change at the local level.
