Quote of the Week:
Indivisible Anniversary: “It was December of 2016. The shock, anger, and despair of Trump’s election threatened to engulf us -- but instead, we chose to turn it into our fuel. We gathered in living rooms, in libraries, and around our laptops to put together a practical guide for resisting Trump’s agenda. We weren’t sure how many people would read it, but when our original document crashed Google Docs and spread across social media like wildfire, we knew we weren’t alone.
And when thousands of Indivisible groups began popping up organically across the country, we knew we were at the start of something momentous and powerful.” –Indivisible Team, December 2022

Make Climate Action a Priority in Thurston County
Please help make climate action a priority in the county comprehensive plan update! Write to the county commissioners today! By law, every city and county in Washington state is undergoing a two-to-three-year planning process called the “Comprehensive Plan update,” which results in a ten-year plan that describes the long-term vision for growth, infrastructure, and services for that jurisdiction. The resulting plan articulates the policies intended to guide the day-to-day decisions of elected officials and staff. This has a huge impact when it comes to the next decade of climate policy in our county!
The next ten years are a critical window when it comes to climate change and our struggle for a livable future. Please take a few minutes today to write to the county commissioners at the address below and bcc TCAT, before the 22nd of December.
Your comments must include the language: “In the Comprehensive Plan update I want a policy that addresses. . .”
And then write about the climate issues you are most passionate about that you want to see included. Some examples might be:

Keep Congress in Session
Democrats beat the odds and outperformed expectations in a historic way during the midterms. Democrats successfully beat back the expected ‘red wave’ of MAGA extremism. While Republicans paid a price for their extremist agenda, they did take control of the House of Representatives, which means Democrats must use every moment of the trifecta that is left to deliver as much of the Democratic agenda as possible! That means they have from now until January 3, 2023 (Swearing-In Day) to deliver on a long list of priorities.
We need Democrats to stay in session for the remainder of this calendar year so we can minimize the harm Republicans can do by:
Action: Call Senators Murray and Cantwell and Representatives Strickland and Kilmer and ask them to stay in session for the remainder of this calendar year and take critical actions before Republicans take over the House of Representatives.
Script: Hello, My name is [YOUR NAME] and I am a constituent from [your CITY AND ZIPCODE]. I’m very concerned about a Republican House majority in 2023. We know the Republican playbook is based on sabotage, hostage taking, and an extremist agenda.
We need Democrats to stay in session for the rest of the year so we can minimize the harm Republicans can do by:
Opposed to Hate Crimes
Background: Hate Crimes, Explained | Southern Poverty Law Center
Hate crimes have gone up dramatically since 2016. Because hate violence is intentionally, specifically targeted at individuals because of their personal, immutable characteristics they are very personal crimes, with very special emotional and psychological impacts on the victim – and the victim’s community.
Hate crimes physically wound and may effectively intimidate other members of the victim’s community, leaving them feeling terrorized, isolated, vulnerable, and unprotected by the law. By making the victim’s community fearful, angry, and suspicious of other groups – and of the power structure that is supposed to protect them – these incidents can damage the fabric of our society and fragment communities.
Action: Contact your Members of Congress
Script: I am opposed to the hateful language of people like Kanye West, Nick Fuentes, and a Republican presidential candidate. With hate crimes rising, the time is now to publicly condemn any and all scapegoating of Jewish people; people who are lesbian, bisexual, or gay, people who are transgender, and people immigrating to the US. We already know where this rhetoric can lead. During this holiday season, I urge you to issue a clear, unequivocal statement of support for Jewish Americans, the LGBTQ+ community, and immigrating families, and to affirm our shared humanity. Thank you.
