Initiatives
Olympia Indivisible strongly recommends a NO vote on all four initiatives on your November ballot. These initiatives are an attempt to repeal landmark environmental, education, and healthcare bills passed by the State Legislature over the past three years. Click on the initiative number to learn more about these bad initiatives and how you can help defeat them.
- Initiative 2066 — perpetuates dependence on fossil fuels for home heating in Washington by repealing common sense energy efficiency protections.
- Initiative 2109 — repeals billions in education funding by eliminating the capital gains tax on the ultra-wealthy
- Initiative 2117 — repeals the Climate Commitment Act, which is raising funds to fight climate damage
- Initiative 2124 — sabotages the WA Cares plan which helps Washingtonians afford long-term care

Pat McCarthy
McCarthy earned her Bachelor of Arts in liberal studies from the University of Washington Tacoma in 1992. She served as the school board director for the Tacoma School District from 1987 to 1999 and as the county executive of Pierce County, Washington. In 2016, McCarthy was elected Washington State Auditor, defeating Republican Mark Miloscia. She won reelection in 2020, receiving 60 percent of the vote against Chris Leyba.

She also successfully sponsored four bills in the Washington State Consumer Protection Package, consumer-centric upgrades to the OIC that indicate interest in and understanding of the Insurance Commissioner’s areas of oversight.

Dave Upthegrove has led efforts to change the county’s flood district from a last century approach to floods and instilled a holistic approach to include salmon restoration, remove structures and give the rivers more room across the entire floodplain. His skills in working with tribal leaders, commercial interests and residential communities in flood areas helped bring better solutions.

As an Olympia City Council member, she chairs the Finance Committee and serves on the Communications Board, Deschutes Stewardship Coalition (Alternate), DID Advisory Committee, Joint Animal Services, LEOFF 1 Disability Board, Olympic Region Clean Air Agency (Alternate), Fire Authority Planning Committee, Sea Level Rise Governance Committee (Alternate), Thurston Climate Mitigation Collaborative, and Thurston County Solid Waste Advisory Committee (SWAC).

Salvador “Sal” Mungia was raised in Lakewood by working-class parents and graduated with honors from Georgetown University in 1984. Mungia has practiced as a trial lawyer in Tacoma for 40 years, has been recognized by a “Best Lawyers in America” group, and has served as President of the Tacoma-Pierce Bar Association and the Washington State Bar Association. Mungia has been rated “Exceptionally Well Qualified” or “Well Qualified” by eight Washington State bar associations
