In January and February 2023, an expanded group of OI Steering Committee and OI members convened to update goals, objectives, strategies and teams for 2023 – 2024.

Meetings were facilitated by OI member David Hanig. We rolled out our strategic plan in April 2023 at an all-member meeting with the slogan Building our Bench Strength for a Sustainable Democracy.

Mission, Scope and Principles

​Olympia Indivisible, founded on January 3, 2017, is a Washington chapter of the national Indivisible movement. We are a 100% volunteer grassroots team-powered community in Congressional District 10.

Olympia Indivisible’s mission is to defend our democratic institutions and promote social justice and progressive values

Scope

We encourage citizens to participate in our democracy;

We support progressive and resist regressive initiatives and legislation;

We empower progressive leadership through involvement in electoral campaigns at the federal, state, and county levels;

We amplify political momentum by building coalitions and strive to elevate young, diverse grassroots leadership.

Principles

Broad civic engagement in the democratic process is essential for the survival of a vibrant democracy;

In achieving our mission, we will model the values of forbearance, inclusion, tolerance, truth, and fairness.

Goal and Objectives for 2023-2024
Introduction The following goals and objectives are for the current federal, state, and local conditions where there are narrowly divided legislatures and municipal offices.

Principal Goals
  • Push back against the erosion of democratic institutions and civil rights 
  • Support pro-democracy representation

Objectives and Strategies
Objectives are listed below. Those in bold are key for 2024. Strategies are indented below their respective objective. 
  • Focus our limited bandwidth to build progressive power by targeting key winnable elections. 
    1. Target races with close progressive control, or small conservative control - e.g., LD22 and CD8
    2. Provide early candidate endorsements and strong campaign support
  • Use close-to-home issues to increase participation, membership, and local collaborations
  • Energize and inspire the OI membership so they are engaged as Democracy protectors.
    1. Increase participation by providing activities with low barriers to entry
  • Build coalitions with other activists and groups who share our interests
    1. Support issues of shared concern or interest.
  • Build relationships with other Washington Indivisible Network
  • Advocate with our elected representatives on key OI issues.
  • Where feasible, promote voter registration and participation locally and in key swing states.
