Black Lives Matter Seattle King County is calling for a statewide general strike, protest march, and day of action in support of all Black lives in Washington State on Friday, June 12th.
Supporting the dismantling of anti-black systems and policies of oppression is fundamental to the kind of social justice which is at the heart of Olympia Indivisible’s core values. The Olympia Indivisible Steering Committee is putting those values into action by making a financial donation to the Seattle-King County BLM to further their work at combating police brutality and advancing racial justice policies. We encourage our members to consider doing the same as individual donors and to read the statement (see link below) about the goals associated with Seattle-King County Black Lives Matters Friday call to action.
At this time, no march has been scheduled in Olympia for this coming Friday. For those of you who may want to join the march in Seattle, it will be held at Judkins Park, 2150 S. Norman Street, Seattle. Meet at 1 pm; March begins at 2 pm. Our place is with our communities of color who have for centuries suffered at the hands of structural racism and white supremacy.
Black Lives Matter Seattle King County has stated that: "We have not made this decision (to march) lightly. We know that people will claim that our efforts are going to increase the risks of harm to our community and allies by doing this during a global pandemic. We are not taking risk, we have been put at risk. Anti-Blackness is a greater threat to our survival, and racism is its own pandemic. It is killing us, and we are fighting to survive and thrive."
