Representing YOU and advocating for our values and goals!

Meeting With Marilyn Strickland

Sometime in February (date to be determined very soon), the OI Members of Congress Team (MoCs) will unite and collaborate with Indivisible Tacoma, Lacey Grey Resistance Indivisible, and Indivisible Puyallup for a show of strength and solidarity when we meet for the first time with our new Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland’s legislative aides.

Our purpose is to introduce ourselves and to impress on Congresswoman Strickland and her staff that CD-10 Indivisibles want our values and goals represented in federal legislation.  We will emphasize our dedicated interest in seeing progress in the areas of social justice, immigration, environmental protection and justice, voter protections, climate change adaptations, and strengthening our democratic institutions.

MoC Team 2020 Review

The Olympia Indivisible Members of Congress team has been vigorously active this year, adapting to Zoom meetings in March.  We visited Congressman Denny Heck’s legislative aide every month.  We were able to resume monthly meetings with the legislative aides of Senators Murray and Cantwell in June.

Our agendas were chock-a-block full of progressive issues our members care about and for which we lobbied quite passionately.  We also made sure to thank our congressional representatives for supporting beneficial bills, including several that made it into law.
Our agendas are located in Google Drive and are available for perusal to any OI member.  Listed below are just some of the issues embedded in congressional bills which we either advocated for or protested:
  • Social Justice:
Dept. of Homeland Security’s cruel and unethical actions toward immigrants, ensuring a fair and comprehensive census, excessive military spending, child care, protecting SNAP, housing as a human right
  • Covid Pandemic:
Vaccine development and distribution, the HEROES Act and the CARES Act, emergency rent and mortgage relief, worker health care protection, paycheck guarantee
  • Institutions:
Elections funding, protecting the Post Office, Trump administration violations of the Hatch Act, a possible violation of the Presidential Records Act, AG William Barr’s illegal and unethical actions
  • Civil Rights:
    DHS cruelty to immigrants,
  • Environment:
Climate change, wildlands protection, access to clean water
  • Health:
    Medicare for All
  • Accountability for Elected Officials:
Trump administration ignoring valid and legal subpoenas from Congress, thereby obstructing justice and undermining the separation of power and Congress’ oversight responsibilities, and numerous instances of fraud, graft, and corruption to funnel money to Trump through various entities and illegal activities.
