Initiatives - Vote NO
Olympia Indivisible strongly recommends a NO vote on all three 2026 state ballot initiatives funded by multi-millionaire Brian Heywood through his PAC Let’s Go Washington on your November ballot. Multiple large coalitions in Washington oppose these initiatives and feel strongly that all of them are awful and can be defeated. But it won't be easy. Northwest Progressive Institute (NPI) and No Hate in Washington State oppose IL26-001 and IL26-638.
The NO on 645 PAC is leading the campaign to oppose the ballot initiative, with support from Millionaires Tax for Washington PAC. NO on 645 is a broad coalition of small business owners, early learning providers, teachers and education leaders, nurses and healthcare providers, working families, elected leaders and labor unions. Governor Ferguson opposes IP26-645, as does the Washington State Democratic Party.
IL26-001: Repeals the Safety Act, which restored the balance between student privacy and parental rights, giving parents additional rights they didn't have before.
IL26-638: Mandates invasive genital exams for young girls because Heywood and the right wing are obsessed with barring trans girls from girls' sports. It will require sex verification for any student who wants to play girls’ sports. That could mean invasive genital exams or costly genetic testing for girls as young as 11 just to join a school team: it explicitly requires verification of a student’s reproductive anatomy, genetics, or hormone levels.
IP26-645: Repeals the Millionaire’s Tax which provides tax cuts for 99.5% of Washingtonians, paid for by a tax on income over one million dollars and earmarks the funds raised to pay for tax cuts for working and middle-class families and small business, and to fund education, healthcare, and childcare programs.

TRL runs 29 locations across five counties on a budget designed for 2001. Our libraries are cornerstones of our region -- providing civic, educational, and economic vitality far beyond the books on the shelves. They offer equitable access to technology, community programs, safe public spaces, job and small-business assistance, research help, and meeting rooms. Yes4Libraries.org is leading the effort to pass this and a wide coalition of organizations, elected officials, and community members are in support.
R26-002: This resolution will be on the November 3 ballot in all five counties served by TRL, asking voters to support a levy lid lift to $0.35 per $1,000 of assessed value. In Thurston County, the average cost is estimated to be $4.92/month or $59/year. Go to Yes4Libraries.org to find a calculator that will show the cost based on specific home value.
