Federal Actions:

Protect the Inflation Reduction Act’s Climate Provisions

The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), the most ambitious climate legislation in U.S. history, is under threat once again—this time from a new challenge at the World Trade Organization (WTO). This attack targets key provisions of the IRA that are vital for cutting climate pollution and expanding renewable energy jobs.

The IRA is the most-significant climate legislation ever passed in the United States, and plays an important role in reducing climate pollution and creating good-paying clean energy manufacturing jobs.

Action: Submit a public comment to the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) and supporting the push for a Climate Peace Clause to protect future climate policies from harmful trade challenges.

Defend Our Right to Clean Water

From Our friends at Earthjustice

The Sackett v. Environmental Protection Agency Supreme Court ruling eviscerated the Clean Water Act and removed protections for over 118 million acres of wetlands and a staggering but yet-to-be-determined number of streams. It dealt a significant blow to water everywhere, and to an important environmental safeguard.

Despite the challenges posed by the Sackett decision, advocates across the country are rallying to defend our water in states like Colorado, Illinois, and New Mexico. However, challenges persist as states like North Carolina and Indiana enact legislation that weakens water protections, and legal battles over water rights continue in places like Georgia. Moreover, industries are exploiting the Sackett ruling to pollute and destroy wetlands for profit, underscoring the urgency of our advocacy efforts.

Public support is strong for the Clean Water Act, and ninety-four percent of people say that protecting the water in our nation’s lakes, streams, and rivers is important. This widespread support underscores the opportunity for progress and mobilization.

Action: Tell Congress to defend our right to clean water.
