Weekly Call To Action - September 19, 2021

9/19/2021

Take Two Actions Now:

It’s Time to Do the Right Thing for Our Democracy. Pass The Freedom to Vote Act Now!

Picture

This week the Senate will likely vote on  the Senate Democrat’s latest voter protection effort, The Freedom To Vote Act. Senator Tim Kaine explains why this bill is so crucial: Opinion: The Jan. 6 attack demands that we protect voting rights

This bill ensures voter access, prohibits gerrymandering and protects against foreign and domestic election interference. It deserves to pass with the support of the entire Senate. If Republicans choose to filibuster, Democrats must step up and change the Senate rules.

It’s Time.

Action 1: Contact our Senators.
  • Senator Patty Murray,  Phone: 253-572-3636 (Tacoma); 202-224-2621‬ (D.C.) or Contact Form
  • Senator Maria Cantwell, Phone 253-572-2281 (Tacoma); 202- 224-3441‬ (D.C.) or Contact Form
  • Email both your MOCs at once using Democracy.io.

Script: My name is ______. I am from Olympia Indivisible, and my zip code is ________. I’m asking Senator______ to do everything in her power to pass The Freedom To Vote Act introduced into the Senate this week, including changing Senate filibuster rules if needed.  It’s time to do the right thing for our Democracy.

Push Our Representative to Pass
the Reconciliation Bill

Picture

The House must vote by September 27 on the budget reconciliation.

We need to put pressure on Rep. Strickland to vote for the most robust progressive package possible and to demand its passage before the bipartisan infrastructure bill.

Action 2: Call Rep. Marilyn Strickland every day this week  to hammer home our position.
  • Marilyn Strickland: 202-225-9740 or Contact Form
Script: Hello, my name is ________, I am a member of Olympia Indivisible and my zip code is _______. It is vital that the House not water down the Reconciliation Bill. In particular, we expect you to support the promised investment in climate change, expanding coverage for health care, lowering drug prices, and tax reform.  In addition, we demand that you advocate passing this Reconciliation Bill before voting on the bipartisan Infrastructure Bill.

Stop Taxpayer Subsidies to the Fossil Fuel Companies!

Picture

Here’s the problem: The bipartisan infrastructure package that’s currently moving through Congress would make fossil fuel companies eligible for at least $25 billion in new taxpayer-funded subsidies. This is in addition to the $15 billion that they already receive on a yearly basis.

Here’s the consequence: These subsidies allow companies like Exxon to fund fossil fuel projects that damage our climate beyond repair.

But here’s the solution: Fossil fuel companies should not be rewarded with taxpayer funds to demolish our climate even further. So we’re sending this petition to the Senate to demand they end fossil fuel subsidies and instead invest in real climate solutions.

Action 3: Support the Green New Deal Network, in which Indivisible is a partner, and sign this petition.
