Take Two Actions Now:
Support a Filibuster Exemption
We don’t like it, but the showdown for democracy is getting pushed back because the new deadline for the recovery and reconciliation package is going to suck up most of the oxygen on Capitol Hill for the next few weeks.
So, what does this all mean for OI? Well, our Congressional Rep. Marilyn Strickland does NOT sit on any of the decision-making committees and/or caucuses relevant to the recovery and reconciliation bills (Ways and Means, Energy and Commerce, Education and Labor). So there’s no work for us to do here. BUT!!!!
We CAN keep pushing our Senators to do the right thing! We have made progress In the last six months, but now we need decisive leadership from our senators.
Action 1: Call Patty and Maria’s office this week, tell Maria to get off the fence and join Patty in support of a filibuster exemption, and tell both Patty and Maria to urge Leader Schumer to bring S1 and S4 to a vote before it is too late.
Script: My name is ________. I am a member of Olympia Indivisible and my Zip Code is _______. Now is the time we need real leadership. Come out publicly in firm, decisive advocacy for a filibuster exemption. Urge Leader Schumer to bring S1 and S4 to a vote before it is too late. Speak out. It's time to get off the fence. The Founding Fathers did not include a filibuster because it is not democracy when a minority holds the majority hostage.
Save the United States Postal Service
The USPS is in crisis because of a draconian retiree pre-funding mandate that Congress passed in the George W. Bush-era. Postmaster General Louis DeJoy is using shortfalls caused by this mandate to push through a plan to slow down our mail and raise prices!
Action 2A: Call our Senators and demand they lobby Biden to save USPS.
Script: My name is ________. I am a member of Olympia Indivisible and my Zip Code is _______. You have the ability, right now, to pressure Biden to fire Ron Bloom and replace him with a true Democrat, someone who is not in collusion with DeJoy, thus enabling the Board to replace the Postmaster General with someone who believes in the US Postal Service. Please do so.
Action 2B: Click here to: Sign the petition to Biden: Continue addressing our problems within the USPS -- make this move in order to oust DeJoy
