Weekly Call To Action - November 14, 2021

11/14/2021

Take Two Actions Now:

The Threat To Our Elections Is Real

Picture

We Must Act Now

From Paul Waldman at The Washington Post: Trump is losing in court. But his threat to democracy is growing.

“What do you think will happen in 2024 if Trump is the GOP nominee, the race is close, Big Lie proponents have been installed as election officials all over the country, Fox News is filled with allegations of fraud, the entire Republican Party has accepted the idea that if the presidency can’t be won legitimately it must simply be seized — and the rest of us act like it’s anything less than one of the most terrifying crises in the United States' history?”

The Freedom to Vote Act is a crucial first step in pushing back against the new state laws that restrict voting and install partisan interference in counting the votes. This Act is overwhelmingly popular with voters across our country, yet our Senators are allowing it to be blocked by unfair filibuster rules. You can read more about this here: Federal Election Legislation

Action 1: Contact our Senators.

Option A: Contact your representatives by telephone or email.

  • Senator Patty Murray, Phone: 253-572-3636 or Contact Form
  • Senator Maria Cantwell, Phone: 253-572-2281 or Contact Form
    • Email both your MOCs at once using Democracy.io.

Script: Senator ______________. My name is __________, and my zip code is ________. I am a member of Olympia Indivisible. I am contacting you because you are still allowing unfair filibuster rules to block passage of the Freedom to Vote Act, despite the fact that the majority of voters in our country support it.

If you are going to keep the Jim Crow filibuster, at least make a carve-out for voting rights. You must stop messing around and DO THIS NOW.

Option B: Take this action with one click in Take Action Network (TAN) Pass The Freedom to Vote Act Now!

Celebrate the Passing of the Infrastructure Bill

Picture

Celebrate, talk it up with your friends and neighbors, and thank Rep. Marilyn Strickland for helping to pass the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act!

On Monday, Nov. 15, President Biden will sign into law the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. This transformative legislation delivers critical federal investments in Washington’s roads, bridges, highways, waterways, culverts, public transportation systems, clean energy infrastructure, and broadband while also creating millions of good paying, union jobs.

As it delivers the largest federal investment in public transit in American history, it also makes the largest dedicated bridge investment since the creation of the interstate highway and the biggest investment in infrastructure since the Depression.

Did you know that more than seven out of ten Washingtonians across the state support this historic investment? That’s worth celebrating all by itself!

Did you know that the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act will deliver $1 billion in grants made available for a new national culvert removal program, and $172 million for NOAA’s Pacific Coastal Salmon Recovery Fund? That’s real money. Three cheers!

Action 2A: Use your personal voice to help message the success of Biden and the Democratic Congress.

Share personal stories which send the message "these folks care about us," "these folks are getting stuff done," is the kind of messaging that Makes a Difference in how people vote.

  • share a word on your social media feed,
  • tell your neighbors
  • tell the grocery clerk
  • tell your friends at the gym or wherever.

Make it personal and talk about how you are feeling: from clean drinking water and salmon recovery, to safe roads and bridges and combating climate change and wildfires, there’s something in this bill YOU can cheer for.

Action 2B: Contact Rep. Strickland and tell her thanks for supporting the infrastructure bill and to keep up the work to get the Build Back Better bill over the finish line.

  • Marilyn Strickland, Phone: 202-225-9740 or Contact Form

Optional Action 2B: Take this action with one click in Take Action Network (TAN) Thank Your Rep. for Their Infrastructure Vote.
