Investigate Trumps’ Corrupt Airplane Deal

Background
  • Standing by in San Antonio: the luxury plane from Qatar intended to replace Air Force One | Jefferson Public Radio
  • Pentagon accepts $400 million jet from Qatar for President Donald Trump

At Trump’s directive, the Pentagon accepted a ‘luxury palace’ jet gifted by Qatar for the President’s use. Trump said the jet is worth $400,000,000, and that he would be ‘stupid’ not to accept it.

Trump disregarded a clearly written constitutional requirement before directing acceptance of the jet. In order to prevent corruption, the Foreign Emoluments Clause establishes that the President is prohibited from accepting any present “of any kind whatsoever” from any king or foreign state without the consent of the Congress.

Trump asked Pam Bondi, the Attorney General, about the consent of Congress requirement. Her opinion was that Trump can ignore it as long as the Pentagon has ownership of the jet during his term, and the United States passes it to the Trump Presidential Library after his term.

They both disregarded big potential ethics issues. Before she was appointed Attorney General, Bondi was an official registered agent representing the Qatari government, earning $115,000 compensation per month. The Trump family has had close business relationships in Qatar for years and just reached a deal with a Qatari state-owned developer to build a $5.5 billion luxury golf course partnership.

Also, because Air Force One is constantly used for top secret governmental business, it has serious security issues and will need to be retrofitted by the Department of Defense at U.S. expense. That is said to cost the U.S. up to a billion dollars and take years.

There’s bipartisan opposition to this ‘deal’. A number of Republican Members are objecting about the ethics and practical issues and many Democratic Members are vocally opposed.

Action: Request our Members of Congress support the demand for an ethics investigation.

  • Senator Maria Cantwell, Contact Form

Dear Senator ________________, thank you for opposing Trump’s violation of the Emoluments Clause and making it clear that Trump cannot accept this $400,000,000 gift through the Pentagon without explicit consent from Congress. Please support Senator Reed’s demand for an ethics investigation into this matter. Also, during negotiations for the defense portion of the reconciliation bill, please support an amendment to block funds for upgrading the jet.

Dear Representative Strickland, thank you for serving on the House Committee on Armed Services. Please support Senator Reed’s demand for an ethics investigation into the $400,000 gift jet matter, and advocate that Trump cannot accept the Qatar luxury jet by passing it through the Department of Defense and then having it sent to his Presidential library.

Oppose the Genius Crypto Act

Background
  • Senate advances crypto bill after Democratic opposition tanked first vote - CBS
  • Don’t Be a Dummy: GENIUS Act Changes Fail to Make a Bad Bill Better - Amanda Fischer.

Republicans are reviving the GENIUS ACT—the cryptocurrency bill that failed in 2022—for a vote this week. The original bill claimed to protect consumers and prevent corruption but fell short on both counts. According to Better Markets, the revised version "does not make a bad bill better," offering little consumer protection and doing nothing to prevent Trump from using crypto to enrich himself. CBS News reports that Trump and his family have profited nearly $3 billion in just six months since launching their own cryptocurrency.

Unfortunately, 16 Democrats—including Senators Gillibrand, Alsobrooks, Gallego, and Warner—support the bill, arguing some regulation is better than none. But as Elizabeth Warren warns, a bill that boosts stablecoins while enabling corruption and risking national security is worse than no bill at all.

Actions: Call or email your senator to demand they oppose a cryptocurrency bill enabling Trump’s corruption.
  • Senator Patty Murray, Phone: 253-572-3636 or Contact Form
  • Senator Maria Cantwell, Phone: 253-572-2281 or Contact Form
    • Email both your MOCs at once using Democracy.io.
Phone Script:

My name is __________. I am a constituent, and my zip code is ________.
I am asking the Senator to vote against the Genius Act, a crypto-friendly bill that will enable and exacerbate Trump’s continued corruption. Unless the bill is revised to prevent Trump from taking crypto-bribes and to protect consumers against fraud and other matters, I urge her to oppose it when it comes up for a vote and work with other Democrats to make sure this dangerous bill does not pass.

Email Script

I am asking you to vote against the Genius Bill and to encourage other Democrat senators to do the same. This bill is dangerous because it will enable Donald Trump’s propensity for corruption such as taking crypto bribes by national as well as foreign actors or corporations. In addition, the bill does little to provide protections for consumers. It provides limited protections for deposits, lacks sufficient authority for regulation, and does not deter illicit activities like money-laundering.

Our monthly call next Tuesday, May 27, will give you everything you need to get started!

  2. Join a “What’s the Plan” call (Thursdays, 3pm ET / 12pm PT) to ask Leah and Ezra your questions about reconciliation, No Kings, and more! Come be part of a free-flowing, interactive chat about what’s next in our fight for democracy.

  3. It’s a key week in our fight to stop the Republican Tax Scam, and Indivisible National has rolled out billboards, phonebanks, door knocking, digital programs, and more! Grassroots giving has already helped expand our efforts in big ways,

Action: If you can spare it, you can chip in today to fund billboards and nationwide organizing to defeat the Medicaid-killing MAGA agenda.

  • Every Wednesday and Thursday in June, join Indivisible National for a phonebank where we’ll be calling voters and connecting them directly to their Senator. Together, we’ll urge Republicans to oppose the Trump Tax Scam—a reckless GOP tax plan that prioritizes billionaires like Elon Musk while selling out working families.

Republicans in Congress are trying to ram this through using budget reconciliation, bypassing bipartisan support to give trillions in tax breaks to the ultra-wealthy. Their plan? Slash Medicaid, SNAP, and early education programs—all so billionaires can hoard more wealth while everyday Americans pay more. Indivisible will be using Scale to Win, their easy-to-use calling tool, to make these calls.
