Report Waste, Fraud, and Abuse of Trump’s Birthday Parade

A Military Celebration or a Presidential Birthday Party? Trump’s Big Parade, Explained

Critics have called a parade an authoritarian display of power that is wasteful, especially as Trump slashes costs throughout the federal government. The Government Accounting Office (GAO) defines waste as that which "squanders money or resources." We can celebrate 250 years of the military without focusing on a president who never served in the military.

Sample Script:

Thank you for this opportunity to report government waste and abuse. The planned military parade in Washington, DC, on June 14 is predicted to cost tens of millions of dollars of taxpayers’ money, with no significant benefit to the American people. This huge expense will be incurred while programs that do benefit people are being cut to the bone. This parade will “squander money and resources.” Therefore, the parade must be cancelled. Thank you.

Action: Take this TAN action and submit a complaint to the Government Accounting Office
Suggestions:
  • Choose “Anonymous” as your filing preference.
  • Select “Management, Waste, or Misappropriation of govt. Funds” from the rule you believe to be violated.
  • Choose today’s date for “When did the incident occur”.
  • Choose “Army Department” for the agency involved.
  • Incident location “Washington DC, District of Columbia, United States”.
  • Paste the provided script into the details box and modify it to be unique.
  • Answer “No” to the question of reporting to another agency.
  • Do not fill in any names of persons.

WA State Actions:

Thank our State Executives and Legislators for Expanding Voting Rights

Person putting a paper with a vote sticker into a voting box
From OI’s State Executive Office Team

Background
  • Senate Bill 5077
  • Secretary of State Hobbs supports automatic voter registration for tribes
  • Governor signs SB 5077

A Senate bill that expands voter registration, encouraging more Washingtonians to participate in the democratic process, was just signed into law. It reduces barriers for low and moderate income individuals, the formerly incarcerated, and newly naturalized Americans that may have language barriers, and also allows Washington tribes to participate in automatic voter registration. The primary sponsor was State Senator Javier Valdez, supported by our Secretary of State Steve Hobbs, and signed by Governor Ferguson with enthusiastic support.

Action: Contact State Senator Valdez, Secretary of State Steve Hobbs, and Governor Bob Ferguson thanking them for protecting and encouraging the democratic process of voting. A true democracy values everyone’s voice and participation.

  • Senator Javier Valdez, phone 360-786-7690, or contact here
  • Secretary of State Steve Hobbs, email address [email protected]
  • Governor Bob Ferguson, phone 360-902-4111, or contact here

Script: My name is _____ and my zip code is _____. Thank you for your support of SB 5077 in expanding automatic voter registration and improving the democratic process of our state. Your efforts to make voting a more inclusive process that reduces barriers for disenfranchised voters are noticed and appreciated.

Sign up for our Elections Volunteer Support Team
Olympia Indivisible has developed a reputation of being our region's most organized and energized campaign support volunteers for progressive candidates, but we need a team to organize and lead this work. In an era of creeping authoritarianism, every single race matters. Sign up today to be part of the Elections Volunteer Support Team. We are looking for both team members AND two co-leads to ensure that the candidates OI members endorse for city councils, Port Commission, and school board get the volunteer, boots-on-the-ground help they need to win.

Action: Sign up to be a member or co-lead of the Elections Volunteer Support Team

Saturday June 7 Coffee Connection and Capitol Lake Walk

Picture
OI’s members have been asking for opportunities to gather, connect, build community, and support each other as we rise to meet this moment in history. In response, OI’s Membership Team has formed a Small Groups Team that is planning to test out several different types of gatherings in the coming weeks and months. We launched these activities this past Saturday with over twenty members in attendance. Join us this coming weekend!
  • Coffee Connection – Time: 10 a.m. Place: Nicole’s Bar, 109 Legion Way SW, Olympia.

Come to this no-host event to support a local business by purchasing a cup of coffee and/or some breakfast and visit with friends new and old. An OI Steering Committee member will be there along with Terry, a representative from OI’s Small Groups team. Should we have a large turnout, we may ask some folks to self-select and split off to other cafes in the area.

  • Capitol Lake Walk – Time 10:45 a.m. Place: Meet in Heritage Park, near the restrooms on Water Street (across from Octapas Cafe).

Zel, also a representative from OI’s Small Groups team and dressed in a volunteer vest and OI pin, will meet interested walkers there for a stroll around the lake. Walk as long or as far as you feel like.
Action: Come join us for either or both activities – no sign-up or RSVP necessary!
