Federal Actions:

Freedom and Medical Care for Wilmer Toledo-Martinez: Thank One Senator, Remind Another

  • Senator: ICE dog attack on Washington state man ‘should shock the conscience’
  • Senator calls for release of man detained by federal agents after he was attacked by a patrol dog
  • Photos of Wilmer: Senator Murray Condemns Egregious Use of Force By ICE.

On November 14, ICE agents tricked Vancouver resident Wilmer Toledo-Martinez into coming outside his home and then sicced an attack dog on him, even though he repeatedly stated that he was not resisting arrest or trying to escape. According to a press release from Senator Patty Murray, “His wife and two of his young children, ages two and three, all U.S. citizens, were forced to watch helplessly as he was violently attacked and dragged away. For hours afterward, he was denied even basic medical care.”

At last report Toledo-Martinez was being held at the Northwest ICE Processing Center in Tacoma, is not receiving appropriate medical care, and is experiencing blurred vision, numbness in his wounded arm, and difficulty breathing.

Action 1: Thank Senator Murray for speaking out.
  • Senator Patty Murray, Phone: 253-572-3636 (Tacoma); 202-224-2621‬ (DC), if voicemails are full, use Contact Form.
Script: As a constituent, I thank you for speaking out against the inexcusable brutality of ICE agents in apprehending Wilmer Toledo-Martinez. Please continue this good work.

Action 2: Remind Senator Maria Cantwell of her duty to speak out on behalf of her constituents.
  • Senator Maria Cantwell, Phone 253-572-2281 (Tacoma); 202-224-3441‬ (DC) if voicemails are full, call any regional office or Contact Form
Script: You are no doubt aware of the inexcusable brutality displayed by ICE agents in the apprehension of your constituent Wilmer Toledo-Martinez. Your colleague Senator Murray has spoken up forcefully against it. Please add your voice to hers; this is no time to remain silent.

Farmers Need Trade — Not Aid

Background:
  • Cantwell Responds to Trump’s short-sighted attempt
  • Why a bailout? US farmers report a desperate struggle

Farmers are struggling. With increased production costs, inflation, yearly operating loans, and retaliatory tariffs damaging the export market, many are suffering. Prices are down and bankruptcies are up.
Trump just announced he’s bailing out farmers injured by his tariff wars. He claims funding for the $12 billion in aid will be taken directly out of new tariff revenue. But it won’t.The funds are scheduled to come from taxpayer funds in a US Treasury program.

Another problem is that almost all of the checks will go to mostly midwestern farmers who grow row crops such as wheat and corn. Nationally, only 8% will go to fruit-growing states like Washington.
Farmers need a longer-term fix to address the industry’s many problems. They don’t want to be on the dole — they want to sell their products for the long term in a global marketplace.

Senator Cantwell and Senator Grassley have filed the Trade Review Act of 2025, which has considerable bipartisan support. The Act would revive Congress’ role in setting trade policy.

Action: Contact your Members of Congress (MOCs)
  • Senator Maria Cantwell, 253-572-2281 or Contact Form
Script: Thank you for your leadership in sponsoring the Trade Review Act of 2025 which limits the president’s ability to impose unilateral tariffs without the approval of Congress. Your steadfast work for free trade will grow the Washington economy as well as support our farmers.
  •  Senator Patty Murray, 253-572-3636 or Contact Form
Script: Washington farmers are being injured by Trump’s tariff wars and market problems. Please support Senator Cantwell’s Trade Review Act of 2025 to limit the president’s ability to impose tariffs without congressional approval.
  • Rep Marilyn Strickland, 202-225-9740 or Contact Form
Script: Washington farmers are struggling due to production problems and Trump’s trade wars. As your constituent, I urge you to sign onto HR 2665, the bipartisan bill to restore Congress’ role in trade and to establish a process for a vote allowing or disallowing tariffs.

WA State Actions:

Logo for the organization Washington Families for Freedom
Right now, paid signature gatherers are circulating petitions for dangerous initiatives that will dehumanize transgender students and put Washington’s youth at risk, especially LGBTQ+, immigrant, neurodiverse, and homeless students.

From banning trans girls from sports, to forced outing, taking away students’ ability to confide in school counselors, and possible invasive exams of “reproductive organs” for some girls, initiatives IL26-001 and IL26-638 will threaten the safety of every Washington student.

Washington Families for Freedom, a coalition of parents, teachers, students and community members, needs your help to defeat these dangerous measures and protect all students. Decline to Sign today!

Brian Heywood's PAC, Let's Go Washington, has until January 2nd to collect signatures. WA Families For Freedom is urgently looking for volunteers in the Olympia area to help with canvassing to collect Decline to Sign pledges, rapid response, data entry, and more. The more of us that come together to fight back, the more we can ensure the safety of our state’s most vulnerable students. We need your help!

Action 1: Take the Decline to Sign Pledge for IL 26-001 and 26-638
Action 2: Pass on the pledge to friends, family, and community members

Action 3: Sign up to Volunteer with Washington Families for Freedom

Local Actions:

Olympia’s Cooper Point Village Starbucks Baristas on Strike December 18-24

Poster saying Brewing Solidarity, Starbucks Workers United with a stylized version of the Starbucks siren logo.
Twenty-six new Starbucks stores are joining the 145+ stores that are holding the line every day after years of illegal union busting, understaffing, and retaliation. They are fighting for fair hours, higher take-home pay, and an end to hundreds of labor law violations. SB baristas are in the middle of the longest unfair labor practices strike in the company’s history. The Olympia Cooper Point Village SBWU store workers are the latest to join the picket line.

Action: Join them on the picket line Thursday, December 18 through Wednesday, December 24, any time from 7:30am to 12:30pm.

Where: 1301 Cooper Point Rd, SW, Olympia, WA 98502
(intersection of Cooper Point Road and Harrison — the Starbucks is in the rear of the lot, behind the closed Rite Aid drugstore. There is ample parking).

What: Bring a sign or hand out “No Contract, No Coffee” fliers to customers. Ask customers not to cross the picket line or buy SB products; Northwest Grind, in the Capitol Mall, is a nearby alternative.

Register by Dec. 23 to Volunteer for 2026 Immigrant & Refugee Advocacy Day in Olympia

Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Day, Jan 22, 2026, Olympia, WA
For nearly a decade, Washington Immigrant Solidarity Network (WAISN) has gathered hundreds of immigrant justice advocates at the steps of the Capitol to say loud and clear that immigrants and refugees are here to stay, and to demand our lawmakers support the policies that matter to our neighbors and families.

Immigrant & Refugee Advocacy Day (IRAD), which will be Thursday, January 22, 2026, is more than just an advocacy day, it’s a joyful, people-powered push for justice — led by those most impacted by a broken immigration system. And in 2026, with so much on the line for our communities, we need dedicated allies to show up more than ever.

WAISN needs volunteers to help on a variety of tasks, from set-up, to translation services, to safety marshals, and more. Volunteer registration for IRAD closes December 23.

Action: Register to be a volunteer (or participant) by December 23, 2025
