Quote of the Week:

"In Minnesota, we respect the choices our neighbors make. Even if we wouldn't make the same choices ourselves, there's a golden rule: mind your own damn business!" -- Tim Walz

The important thing is that you DO SOMETHING! So let’s do it!

WA State Actions:

Yikes! Urgent Action to Keep Dave Upthegrove in the Race for Public Lands Commissioner

Dave Upthegrove
Most of our endorsed candidates made it through to the general election. But our Public Lands Commissioner endorsed candidate, Dave Upthegrove, is in second or third place statewide, depending on the latest Secretary of State tabulation!

Olympia Indivisible can help Dave get over the finish line for the top two statewide to go into the general election.

What we will be doing is to “cure” ballots in Thurston County to see if we can get some more votes for Dave. We will reach out to those voters whose ballots have been temporarily rejected because they forgot to sign the envelope, their signature did not match what is on file, etc. Ballot curing is a totally legal process done by many campaigns when it is this close.

What you can do. Sign up to help! People appreciate being contacted if their ballots need correction in order for their vote to be counted. You will give them information on how to reach out to the Thurston County Elections Department to cure their ballot.

Action: Contact Edie Harding at: [email protected] to help with ballot curing in order to gain enough votes for Dave to make it to the general election. We also need help with phone banking, door knocking and texting. Edie and Joby will let you know what the work entails when we know more.

Washington Indivisible is ALL IN for Harris-Walz

Washingtonians for Harris-Walz August 12 at 6:30 pm
A Washingtonians for Harris-Walz virtual rally is being co-hosted by:
  • Washington Indivisible Network (WIN),
  • Indivisible Podcast, and
  • Washington State Democrats

When: Monday, August 12, 6:30-8pm
Where: Zoom event
Register: Here

We’re joining together for a virtual rally because WE’RE ALL IN for Harris & Walz, and we’re all gonna do everything we can to expand our majority in the Washington legislature & executive branches, and ensure a Democratic trifecta in Washington D.C.

This rally is just for us here in Washington, and by us to celebrate our unity and renewed vigor for this historic presidential campaign. Speakers include:
  • Indivisible Co-founder and co-director Ezra Levin
  • WA Dems Chair Shasti Conrad,
  • Senator Cantwell,
  • Reps Jayapal, DelBene, and
  • Our very own Lisa Ornstein!

The Indivisible National team is creating custom actions we can take here in Washington that we’ll be dropping in chat during the call.

Note that we'll also be fundraising during the call (of course!) – all proceeds will be split evenly between the Washington Democrats Coordinated Campaign and the Harris-Walz campaign. You do not need to donate to attend – this is about building community and momentum here in Washington state.

Local Actions:

Petition the Port to End Log Shipping

Logs stacked at the Olympia Port
Background: Reasons to End Log Shipping at the Port

Members of Olympia Indivisible’s Port of Olympia Action Team (POAT) and other concerned community members have launched a petition to end log shipping as soon as possible at the Port of Olympia’s Marine Terminal. The goal is to ensure that Port resources be used for the benefit of the public and that Commissioners are responsible environmental stewards and protect the health of future generations.

Action: If you are a Thurston County resident, please sign the
Petition to end log shipping at the Port of Olympia.

Thank You for Showing Up!

Thank you to the 75 Olympia Indivisible members who attended this past Monday’s event to celebrate and engage in electoral work for presumptive presidential candidate, Kamala Harris. Our August 5 celebration took place the day before we learned about Harris’s choice of vice presidential candidate. Well, talk about a dream team! And welcome to the family, Tim Walz!

Thanks to the Presidential Action Team (E-PAT) for their skit and their song, and now you all know what activities you can do (despite your excuses).

Thanks to all the other speakers who shared what they or their team is doing to promote our State and Federal candidates.

Thanks to the Membership Team, Steering Committee, E-PAT, E-SAT, CTA team and Com-Tech team for pulling together an all-member event with only two weeks’ notice! And special thanks to Garrett for the splendid photos!
