Indivisible National Actions

Tell Congress to block Trump’s march to war with Venezuela. On December 17, The GOP-led U.S. House of Representatives voted to reject Democratic-led efforts that aimed to block President Trump's escalating military actions and demand congressional approval for potential war against Venezuela, with most Republicans voting against these measures. The Senate will likely vote soon after on legislation to block the regime from committing US forces to an illegal Venezuelan war. Use Indivisible National’s email tool to urge our Senators to vote YES.

Email your Members of Congress to demand investigations into Hegseth’s murderous strikes in the Caribbean and Pacific. It appears increasingly likely that Pete Hegseth oversaw war crimes in the regime’s illegal bombings of small boats in the Caribbean. Congress has a duty to launch investigations into these strikes, which have killed over 87 people thus far. Email your Members of Congress and demand they haul Pete Hegseth into public hearings on these ongoing extrajudicial murders.

Federal Actions:

Save Trans Lives

On Wednesday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed two dangerous federal bills which directly endanger Trans lives and the lives of medical healthcare providers, which will now move on to the Senate for a vote:
  • H.R. 3492, which would criminalize provides of gender-affirming care;
  • H.R. 498, which would prohibit Medicaid funds from covering gender-affirming care for youth.

Action 1: Contact Senators Murray and Cantwell to urge them to vote NO on both bills when they reach the Senate.
  • Senator Patty Murray, Phone: 253-572-3636 or Contact Form
  • Senator Maria Cantwell, Phone: 253-572-2281 or Contact Form
    • Email both your MOCs at once using Democracy.io.

Suggested script: As your constituent, I urge you to vote NO on H.R. 3492 and H.R. 498 when they come before the Senate. These bills directly endanger the lives of transgender Washingtonians and the lives of Washington medical healthcare providers.

Action 2: Submit Public Comment: Say NO to DHS "Biological Sex" DNA Testing
Public Comment Period Now through Jan. 2nd

A proposed change to a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) policy would add “biological sex” DNA testing as part of its biometric surveillance program. Among other issues, this would put a target on the backs of Trans, intersex, and gender-nonconforming people; women; Trans people of color; and others, regardless of citizenship or immigration status. The public comment period ends on January 2nd.

Suggesting Talking Points:
  • The proposed policy is unconstitutional
  • The proposed policy erodes privacy
  • The proposed policy puts already vulnerable communities at even greater risk

Thank Washington Leaders for Pushing for Flood Relief Federal Funds

Muddy flooded river surrounds buildings

Background:
  • Court Forced Trump to Restore FEMA Aid as AG Claims Victory
  • Donald Trump has approved Washington State’s request

The floods have been catastrophic. “Atmospheric river” rains started in early December and have ravaged much of Western Washington.

In years past, Congressionally-funded FEMA would normally actively coordinate the emergency response. But Trump has announced he wants to phase out FEMA. He’s imposed steep budget cuts and layoffs, and cancelled $3.8 billion in grants already awarded to states. And FEMA has denied emergency requests, including Washington’s requests for storm relief this spring and for a $150 million infrastructure project.

Washington’s governor, attorney general, and members of Congress immediately rose to meet the emergency. Their actions resulted in Trump’s approval of FEMA disaster assistance: emergency resources and funding to address the catastrophic floods.
  • December 10—Governor Ferguson declares statewide emergency
  • December 11—Washington AG Nick Brown obtains a federal court order that Trump restore billions to Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC), a FEMA program Trump tried to defund
  • December 11—The Trump administration cancels a FEMA task force meeting, which was to vote on overhauling and downsizing FEMA
  • December 12—the entire Washington Congressional delegation writes to Trump asking for an expedited emergency declaration for Washington
  • December 12—Trump approves Governor Ferguson’s emergency declaration and authorizes FEMA to provide resources and coordinate disaster relief efforts, including providing federal funding.

Thank our awesome team of leaders, who immediately exercised their powers to address the emergency.

Action: Contact our Governor
  • Governor Bob Ferguson, Phone: 360-902-4111 or Email

Script: Thank you for your energetic and effective response to Washington’s storm and flooding disaster. Your leadership in addressing the storms, coordinating county and Tribal actions, keeping the state informed, and pursuing the FEMA request is meeting the emergency needs of Washingtonians. You continuously demonstrate effective governance at this challenging time.

Action: Contact our Attorney General
  • Nick Brown, Washington State Attorney General, Contact Form

Script: Thank you for your incredible ongoing representation on behalf of Washington State. Your co-leadership of the recent FEMA case has made so much difference. The order provides a strong basis for Washington’s FEMA request for an expedited Emergency Declaration and for restoring Washington’s BRIC request. We are very grateful for your work.

Action: Contact our federal Senators and our Representative
  •  Senator Patty Murray, Phone: 253-572-3636 or Contact Form
  •  Senator Maria Cantwell, Phone: 253-572-2281 or Contact Form
    • Email both your MOCs at once using Democracy.io.

Script: Thank you for your immediate response to Washington’s catastrophic storm, and for writing to the Trump administration in support of Washington’s expedited Emergency Declaration along with the entire Washington Delegation. The joint letter is persuasive in its description of the terrible impacts of the storm. Thank you for your ongoing work to ensure emergency protection measures.
