TCD Needs YOU to SHOW UP
Thurston Conservation District (TCD) is updating its five-year strategic plan! They are seeking public comment. The last meeting they had in Yelm, there was one member of the public present, Richard Mankamyer, who was fired as a TCD Supervisor last year. We have worked hard to turn the TCD around and now is not time to quit. Show up – this is your last chance to join a discussion to share your input on their priorities for the on-the-ground conservation work in our community moving forward. Questions? Contact Sarah Moorehead firstname.lastname@example.org or 360-754-3588 ext114
ACTION: Show up When: Tue, November 19, 6:00pm – 7:30pm
Where: Historic Gate City Schoolhouse; Gate Community Club, 16980 Moon Rd SW, Rochester, WA 98579, USA (map)
Make The World A Better Place: Eat Fewer Critters
We asked several weeks ago that you reduce your meat consumption by one meal a week to lessen deadly greenhouse gas emissions. A recent statement on climate change made by 11,000 scientists in 153 nations and reported in the latest issue of BioScience, the magazine of the American Institute of Biological Sciences, reinforces this idea. The scientists recommend several actions we can take including:
Eating mostly plant-based foods while reducing the global consumption of animal products...especially ruminant livestock....which can improve human health and significantly lower GHG emissions...this will free up croplands for growing much-needed human plant food instead of livestock feed, while releasing some grazing land to support natural climate solutions...And we need to drastically reduce the enormous amount of food waste around the world. See the article at: https://academic.oup.com/bioscience/advance-article/doi/10.1093/biosci/biz088/5610806
ACTION: Eat meat no more than one meal per day and no meat at all one day/week. Yum!
Trump Wants to Cut the Power of SNAP for Millions of Americans
USDA’s proposed rule on SNAP Standardization of State Heating and Cooling Standard Utility Allowances (SUA) would cut program benefits by a total of $4.5 billion over five years. This cut would result from changes in how states take households’ utility costs into account in determining the amount of SNAP benefits for which they qualify.
Tell the Department of Agriculture (again) that you support the SNAP program, this time by voicing opposition to a standard, national formula for factoring utility costs into benefit eligibility, rather than continuing to let states use actual costs.

Using these tips:
Urge the Closure of Child Detention Centers
This year, the United States government has held nearly 70,000 children in custody, and their families were legally seeking asylum or paths to citizenship. In fact, the Department of Homeland Security manages the largest immigration detention system in the world. The conditions in these detention facilities endanger human lives and fail to meet Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention standards. There are more humane, community-based alternatives to detention. We need to urge Congress to close the child detention centers immediately.
ACTION: Call our Members of Congress and ask them to denounce this practice of separating families, and ask them to shut down the ICE detention centers.
Senator Patty Murray (253) 572-3636
Senator Maria Cantwell (253) 572-2281

I am calling because I am horrified that our government is still separating and detaining children at the American border. I urge Senator __________ to denounce the practice of separating children from their families. Please take action to shut down all ICE detention centers. Thank you.
Representative Denny Heck (360) 459-8514

Pressure Trump Supporters For Impeachment
We don’t usually ask you to donate to National Indivisible, but today we thought it was justified. National has launched a massive digital ad campaign to pressure key Republican senators on impeachment. They have budgeted $286,000 for targeted ads in key states across the country, and they need your help to cover the cost. Click here to donate $10 tonight to fund ads supporting impeachment, pressure Senate Republicans, and support all of Indivisible Action’s work. Indivisible has identified 13 vulnerable senators for the ad campaign. All Senators took an oath of office to uphold the Constitution, and they need to put democracy before party, to commit to a fair and transparent impeachment trial in the Senate. As a reminder, Indivisible does not take money from political parties or candidates - grassroots gifts are their single biggest source of income -- they literally can’t do this without us.

Tell Denny Heck Thanks And Keep Up The Heat
Call and thank Congressman Denny Heck and for standing up for Marie Yovanovitch during her testifying before the House Intelligence Committee investigation into The Donald and his real time witness intimidation. A good start! Keep the President’s toes to the fire and the truth will set him free.

Thank Helen Wheatley
The ballots are still being counted for Port Commissioner. Helen is 2,335 votes behind with about 2,000 votes to count, so victory looks unlikely.
This is a great time to drop Helen a note at email@example.com and express your appreciation of her willingness to step up to make a difference at the Port of Olympia for the citizens of Thurston County. It matters.
