Stop the GOP from Suppressing Votes!
With our razor thin margins in the Senate and House, it won’t take much for the Republicans to retake Congress. They want to regain control of the country, not through democracy, but by controlling who gets to vote.
This week Indivisible is asking all of us to speak out and urge passage of HR1, the For the People Act. This bill will restore voting rights to all Americans, reduce the influence of money in politics, limit partisan gerrymandering, and create new ethics rules for office holders in the federal government.
What can you do to make this happen?
Action 1: Speak out with other Indivisible members in making a video. Why does it matter that every voter has an equal voice? Here is an example from Charles, an Indivisible member from Arizona.
Learn how to easily make your own video by following these simple steps.
Action 2: Call Representative Strickland: 202-225-9740 or Contact Form
Script: My name is __________ and I am calling as a member of Olympia Indivisible. It is urgent that you act now to restore fairness to voting rights in our Country by doing everything you can to pass HR1, the For the People Act. We just saw how little regard the Republicans have for democracy and now they are passing new laws to further restrict voting rights. We need your action now.
Fight for Deb Haalands by Tuesday!
President Biden made history in choosing Congresswoman Deb Haalands from New Mexico to head the Department of Interior for good reason. Not only is she the first Native person to ever be nominated to the cabinet she is extremely qualified. She will work hard to protect our lands for all Americans, but the oil and gas lobby is pressuring the Republicans to stop her nomination. The Senate hearing is this Tuesday. Act now to tell our senators to fight for her nomination.
Action: Contact WA Senators right now, before it is too late!
Script: I’m calling as a member of Olympia Indivisible and my name is _______. We are asking Senator ____ to fight as hard as possible to confirm Congresswoman Deb Haalands as Secretary of the Interior. Don’t let the oil and gas lobby pressure Republican Senators into blocking her nomination on Tuesday. She is extremely qualified. Our country needs her unique experience and wisdom.
Taxpayers Should Not Pay for Port Mismanagement
Background: The Quest to Fund a New Administrative Building
Action: Use the information on the OI webpage Our Representatives to contact your WA state legislator.
Script: Please do not fund a new administrative building for the Port of Olympia. The Port has been lobbying Thurston legislators for money in the budget to build a new administrative building. I believe this would be an unfair burden on WA taxpayers. WA State should not be using precious dollars, especially in this pandemic year, to prop up the Port of Olympia for projects it should pay for on its own.
