Tuesday - Impeachment Rally @ Capitol Steps
Tuesday Dec 17 at 6 PM – 7 PM Hosted by South Puget Sound Action Network and Moveon.org
Demand MoCs open Congressional Investigation of Afghan War
The Washington Post, this week, published a damning investigative report on the US war in Afghanistan, over the past 18 years, disclosing incompetence, corruption and the recognition by military leaders that it is unwinnable, though it continues to devoured lives and money. Yet despite the revelation that we US taxpayers, have been lied to through three different administrations and military leadership about a war there is very little press coverage and even less Congressional outrage.
Congress conducted at least seven investigations into the attacks of US State Department personnel in Benghazi, when four Americans were killed and yet we are hearing nothing from Congress at the disclosure of this deception by US military leaders and politicians to portray the Afghan war as progressing to a resolution when they know it is not.
Given the extent of the deception, the loss of lives and cost to the American public, it is imperative that Congress begin investigations immediately on the War in Afghanistan. This is a non-partisan issue, as we have administrations from both parties engaging in the lies and cover-up and Trump is not the focus, so there is a good chance the current administration will support this. Most importantly, given the US government’s history with lying to the public about our wars, the entrenched military-industrial complex, we need to hold people accountable and end this practice of deceiving and stealing from American tax payers.
ACTION: call Senator Maria Cantwell 253-572-2281
Senator Patty Murray 253-572 3636 and Representative Denny Heck 360-459-8514
Script: My name is _____and as a member of Olympia Indivisible, I am calling to ask Senator/Representative _________ to open an investigation into the War in Afghanistan and hold accountable, those individuals responsible for deceiving the people, thus prolonging the war, increasing the death toll and wasting a trillion tax dollars to a lost cause. As an elected official it is incumbent upon you to show leadership and I am asking you to lead your colleagues in a justifiable and necessary investigation to clean-up this mess. The US military has a history of fraud, waste and abuse and it will continue until we demand change. I am demanding change today.
Tell MOCs to Denounce McConnell
History was made this week with the dishonorable Senator McConnell getting in front of the microphone and said in so many words that he is coordinating with the White House in the upcoming impeachment trail of one Donald J Trump in the Senate. Each and every senator takes a special oath for an impeachment trail of the president that they will be impartial.
ACTION: Call our MoCs and ask them to make a public statement condemning the coordination of dishonorable Senator Mitch McConnell and the White House in the impeachment trial of the president. They have sworn to uphold the constitution of the United States and now must swear to impartially that is expecting of them or we are no longer be a Republic but an authoritarian state.
Support access to life-saving health care for those ICE has detained.
[h/t Doctors for Camp Closure]
Call: Chad Wolf, Acting Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, at the DHS Comment line: 202-282-8495
Call: Alex Azar, Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services: 202-690-7000
Script: Hello, I’m calling from [ZIP] to express my disgust at Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP’s) inexcusable arrests of doctors attempting to provide free flu vaccines to children detained in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) concentration camps. In addition to prioritizing intentional cruelty, denying life-saving vaccines to children being held in unsanitary conditions increases the risk of a major epidemic. In the past year alone, three children have died from the flu while in ICE custody. I urge [NAME] to allow Doctors for Camp Closure or some other healthcare organization to vaccinate detainees for the flu, in order to potentially save thousands of lives and prevent the spread of this virus within and outside of these detention centers.
No Raise for Sheriff Snaza
A $10,236 raise is being considered for a Sheriff who overspent his department budget by $500,000.
On 10/3/19, the Thurston Board of County Commissioners (BoCC) was surprised to learn that Sheriff Snaz had overspent his department budget by $500,000.
On 11/9/19 the BoCC voted 2-1 to set salaries in accordance with The Thurston County Citizens’ Commission on Salaries for Elected Officials effectively raising the Sheriff’s salary from $146,160 to $156,396.
These salary increases are not budgeted for and would require departments to absorb the increases.
You can read more in The Olympian article “Thurston County, here are your elected officials’ salaries for 2020”
ACTION: Send an email to all three Commissioners at the same time
I am asking that you do not reward the Sheriff for his incompetence. Sheriff Snaza is not willing or able to make the hard decisions required of a lead administrator.
