Share Your Idea For Direct Climate Action
Last week we shared the idea of going meatless one day a week to reduce our individual carbon footprints.
This week we are asking you to share your ideas with our members. We are looking for ideas that are pretty easy to do and can be done by most members. Small positive steps! Just write your idea up as completely as you can and send it to email@example.com by Saturday night.
ACTION: Develop an idea you think our members can do and send it in!
What are our MOCs doing to fight Trump’s EPA rollbacks?
“Carbon dioxide is the best-known greenhouse gas, but methane may be more dangerous: One pound can capture up to 84 times as much heat as a pound of carbon dioxide. A byproduct of fossil fuel production as well as agriculture, it’s to blame for about a quarter of all man-made global warming.
“So when the Environmental Protection Agency announced plans Thursday to roll back regulations curbing methane emissions, environmental groups were quick to object. More surprisingly, some of the world’s biggest oil and gas companies complained as well. “[We] have made clear our support of 2016 law,” said the president of Shell Oil Co. BP Plc and Exxon Mobil Corp. agreed.” ….
“The EPA’s own figures show the proposal would cause about 370,000 tons of additional methane emissions between now and 2025 — the equivalent of burning more than 4 million tons of coal. It would save oil and gas companies maybe $20 million a year — a drop in the bucket for a $100 billion-plus industry.”
Ask our Congress members what they are going to do to stop this.
ACTION: call Senator Maria Cantwell (253)572-2281 Senator Patty Murray (253)572-3636
Representative Denny Heck (360) 459-8514
Script: My name is ____________and I'm a member of Olympia Indivisible. I am calling to ask what Congress-member _______ is going to do to prevent the lowering of methane emissions standards by the Trump EPA? Why do we have changes in the EPA regulations with every changing administration, rather than written legislation clarifying standards that will protect us and our children? What are you going to do to reverse this trend of the continual erosion to our environmental protection?

2 Weeks Left - Take the Thurston County Climate Mitigation Survey
Thurston County and the cities of Olympia, Lacey and Tumwater are working with the Thurston Regional Planning Council on a climate mitigation plan. Your input will be used to shape the Thurston Climate Mitigation Plan priorities and actions. This takes 5 minutes or less.
ACTION: Click the “Take the Survey” box on the Regional Climate Mitigation Plan page
In section 3, you have to choose two top priorities.
Since the highest pollution in Thurston County comes from passenger vehicles and residential homes, we suggest you choose these two areas:
Indivisible Defund Hate Week
It is time to use the power of the purse. Indivisible groups across the nation will be taking action to demand that our Members of Congress defund the administration’s campaign of hate. We must ask Congress to cut funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP). The key to fighting detention, raids, and family separation is to cut this funding through the congressional appropriations process. Congress must take action before the fiscal year ends on September 30th. Our Members of Congress must continue to fight against the inhumane treatment of immigrants by ICE and CBP. The budget negotiations give our Members of Congress the leverage to defund hate. The inhumane treatment of people at our southern border is a shocking insult to our American values. We must do everything in our power to stop this campaign of hate.
ACTION: Call our Members of Congress and demand that they cut funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
Senator Patty Murray (253) 572-3636 Senator Maria Cantwell (253) 572-2281

Before leaving the G7 summit in Biarritz, Donald Trump said “China called last night our top trade people and said, ‘Let’s get back to the table.’ So we will be getting back to the table and I think they want to do something.” There was No phone call to China about continuing the trade talks. A total lie. With that statement Trump illegally manipulated financial markets.
Washington Post : "This week, President Trump reportedly told aides that he wants to expedite construction of his border wall and that if they have to break any laws to get it done, not to worry: He will pardon them. Trump’s offer would be more than a flagrant abuse of the pardon power — it could also violate federal bribery law. That has implications not only for impeachment inquiries, but also for potential future criminal proceedings." Beside the federal bribery implications there are the threat of eminent domain along the border, disregard for environment regulations and favoring the "build the wall" bid not to go through the correct bidding procedures.
Tweet from Trump. The United States of America was not involved in the catastrophic accident during final launch preparations for the Safir SLV Launch at Semnan Launch Site One in Iran. I wish Iran best wishes and good luck in determining what happened at Site One. pic.twitter.com/z0iDj2L0Y3 Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 30, 2019. With that he released a most likely classified photo. Remember when Russians visited the White House and Trump passed on classified intelligence. This is illegal and stupid.
New York Times: At the G7 in France Trump suggested that The Trump National Doral Miami Golf Club could be the 2020 event site. It " is the Trump family’s biggest moneymaking asset, which has shown signs of financial struggle since Mr. Trump began running for president in 2015. Mr. Trump said his property, a “great place,” was uniquely equipped to handle the Group of 7 meeting in 2020. “It’s got tremendous acreage, many hundreds of acres, so we can handle whatever happens,” Mr. Trump bragged in Biarritz, France. “People are really liking it and plus it has buildings that have 50 to 70 units. And so each delegation can have its own building.” “We haven’t found anything that could even come close to competing with it,” he told reporters at the beginning of a bilateral meeting with Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany. Just another day in the life of the Donald flaunting the emoluments clause in the Constitution. This is against the law.
In just the past week the president has committed felony manipulation of the markets, bribery, release of classified photos and another emoluments clause violation. Ask what can be done to speed up a real impeachment of Trump? The inquiry is slowly going through the process, but each week Trump defiles our laws and no one is above the law. We the Peoples are listening to this continued flaunting of ours laws and are demanding action so the nation can begin to recover from the damage the Trump Regime has brought upon our country.
ACTION: Call Representative Denny Heck (360) 459-8514. Tell him this makes us sick to our stomach and ask him to do whatever he can to expedite getting this low life out of office. Nobody said this would be easy.
