Weekly Call To Action - December 26, 2021

12/26/2021

From the Year 2021

We Have Many Things To Remember With Gratitude

Picture

Here are our holiday gratitude offerings to Olympia Indivisible from the Call to Action Team.

A reflection on things we can be thankful for in 2021.

  • The swift invention and deployment of highly effective COVID vaccines and boosters
  • Advances in the prevention of malaria and HIV/AIDS
  • A White House that fundamentally believes in democracy
  • A president who has renewed commitment to protecting the environment (e.g., re-entry into the Paris Climate Agreement) rather than rolling back protections
  • A president who has brought back protection for national natural treasures such as Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante
  • An unprecedentedly diverse White House staff, including our first female Vice President, first female Secretary of the Treasury, and first Native American cabinet secretary (Secretary of the Interior)
  • The failure of the violent attempt to up-end the peaceful transition of presidential power
  • The bravery and patriotism of Republicans Liz Cheney and Adam Kizinger
  • An administration which passed a 1.9 trillion dollar American Rescue Plan to help working families (and not a 1.9 trillion dollar tax bail-out for the 1%)
  • An administration which passed The Infrastructure and Jobs Act, the largest investment in infrastructure since the Depression.
  • The empowerment of workers and a record growth in new, small-business start-ups
  • Derick Chauvin convicted on all three counts in the murder of George Floyd verdict
  • Removal of Confederate statues, monuments and flags
  • Juneteenth made a national holiday
  • The courage of Simone Biles and Naomi Osaka to put their well-being ahead of the pressure to behave as commodities for public consumption
  • The successful launch of the James Webb Telescope, which will explore the dawn of the universe
  • Port Blakely Companies, a regional lumber company, returned two miles of waterfront and 125 acres of the Squaxin tribe’s ancestral tidelands on Little Skookum Inlet at no cost
  • And of course, Olympia Indivisible’s own rock stars, Tom Dyer and Lisa Ceazan, for bringing some musical holiday cheer to close out the year.

Take Action Network Training Reminder

Picture

The 2022 Legislative Session is starting January 10. We are doing training for Take Action Network (TAN). The easiest and quickest way to get involved with TAN and understand some of the benefits of the system is to request a meeting with one of the TAN trainers for a one-on-one session. To get the basics requires 15 minutes or less.

Or join one of the next group meetings to get signed up for TAN, learn the basics, and get the most important “searches” installed that will connect you with your own Legislative District representatives. Register for a meeting on 01/07/2022 at 10:00 AM or 01/14/2022 at 03:00 PM.
