Call To Action - December 27, 2020

12/27/2020

Get Ready to Take Action in the New Year

Picture

As we pause at the end of this challenging year, we have cause for hope. New vaccines are about to save lives, and we have the promise of a new administration; however, the next few weeks also hold peril.

Action: Be vigilant and informed

This week holds some dangerous moments requiring our vigilance:
  • We are waiting for Congress to negotiate a Covid relief bill with a vindictive, dangerous President, while millions of Americans face economic ruin.
  • President-elect Biden’s Electoral College victory will be confirmed by Congress on January sixth, but  President Trump is openly calling for “wild riots” on that day, worrying officials about his use of martial law, or the Insurrection Act, to try to overturn the results.
  • Iran has threatened to retaliate for President Trump’s assassination of their Defense General one year ago. In response, Trump has threatened to start a war if “one American soldier is killed.”

Action: Help President-elect Biden

Take five minutes and help in the fight to put two more Georgia Democrats in the U.S. Senate. Volunteers are desperately needed this week to make phone calls. Start with one call and you will have already made a difference.

Thank Governor Inslee

Governor Inslee announced an eviction moratorium extension on December 23, 2020.

The extension will extend the eviction moratorium to March 31, 2021. The current eviction moratorium was set to expire on December 31.

"COVID-19 has had a significant financial impact on Washingtonians over the last nine months," Inslee said. "I know this moratorium has been critical for many families and individuals as they cope with the impacts of this virus. People need certainty about whether the moratorium will be extended, and it is important that I provide that certainty today while we work out the final details of the moratorium."

Additional details and a full announcement will come next week.

Action: Call or tweet Governor Inslee’s office and thank him for the extension on the moratorium of evictions to Washingtonians struggling during this time of covid.
