Legislative Actions:

Help Direct Legislative Effort

What do you want your state legislature to do in the coming session? It’s a short session, from January 12 through March 12. Indivisible members will continue our effective advocacy for just and popular legislation through Washington Indivisible Legislative Action (WILA). Help us prepare by completing the 2026 WILA Legislative Priorities survey by December 7.

Help Timothy Snyder Save Ukrainian Lives

The war in Ukraine is a war of drones, of mechanical pain and death from the sky. The body adjusts. For example, nocturnal urban machine-gun fire is comforting, because it means that Russian drones are being shot down, drones that might otherwise kill you.

Ukrainian civilians close to the front are hunted by Russian drones and murdered. In Nikopol, where world-renowned historian Timothy Snyder visited a month ago, Russian drone operators have used civilian automobiles for target practice and have targeted and killed babies in strollers. On the battlefield, Russia uses drones to kill wounded Ukrainian soldiers and to destroy the ambulances and other vehicles sent to evacuate the wounded.

Snyder has put out an ask to help him with a special focus. Drones can be jammed and lives can be saved, but people need the right equipment — quickly. Right now the 2nd Corps of the Ukrainian national guard need thirty automobiles with the ability to jam Russian drones. If you donate to this campaign, reliable and experienced Estonian partners will purchase the vehicles, fit them with anti-drone jammers, and deliver them exactly where they are needed at the front. This will save lives.

Action: Donate to Freedom is Action to help purchase drone-jamming autos.

Push Forward the Blue Wave

Background
  • Democrats, keep affordability focus as Americans’ costs rise under Trump
  • How Democrats-and Trump-turned 2026 into a potential blue wave
Starting January 31, 2026, there’s going to be another shutdown, unless ongoing government funding has been resumed before then. But one big thing has changed this time: the November elections pushed forward a strong blue wave. We need to work to maintain it.

Trump's approval ratings have been in decline since the government shutdown began on October 1. During the shutdown, some of the efforts that worked were:

Democrats hammered away on the health care emergency. It was a major issue in town halls and the news; polls show nearly 3 out of 4 Americans back extending health care subsidies.

Wealthy America’s dishonorable food shortage was exposed. Americans were shocked by Trump’s callous disregard to fund SNAP. Emergency food banks were and still remain top news.

Democrats honed the signature issue of affordability, a major factor in the election wins. It became obvious that Republicans have done little about the high cost of living. Trump has recently scaled back some international food tariffs, but the price of food that originated in America won’t be reduced.

Our Members of Congress fought valiantly during the shutdown. Let’s show them we appreciate them and urge them to keep pressing hard for Americans’ healthcare and affordability needs.

Action: Contact your members of Congress:
  • Senator Patty Murray, Phone: 253-572-3636 (Tacoma); 202-224-2621‬ (DC), or email Contact Form
  • Senator Maria Cantwell, Phone 253-572-2281 (Tacoma); 202- 224-3441‬ (DC) if voicemails are full, call any regional office or Contact Form

Script: Thank you for working hard to maintain vital services for Americans, including fighting to stop the MAGA health care hike. As your constituent, I urge you to work to hold Senator Thune’s feet to the fire to address health care and affordability issues through January.

  • Representative  Marilyn Strickland, Phone: 202-225-9740 if voicemail is full, call any regional office or email Contact Form

Script: Thank you for working hard to try to maintain vital health care services during the government shutdown. As your constituent, I urge you to continue to work hard with Democrats to extend health care subsidies and take other effective steps.

Help Prevent Expansion of Our Nuclear Program

Background:
  • Trump announces nuclear testing to resume after 33 years
  • The Union of Concerned Scientists expresses concern and provides recommended actions for preventing nuclear war

On Truth Social last week, President Trump announced that the Department of War (Defense) will resume testing nuclear weapons for the first time in 33 years. No country besides North Korea has carried out any nuclear weapons testing in 25 years.

In addition to raising the threat of nuclear war, nuclear weapons testing increases the incidence of cancer and other chronic diseases, and makes large swaths of land uninhabitable and unusable. It encourages other countries to resume their nuclear testing and expand their nuclear programs, and brings us closer to nuclear war. Resuming nuclear weapons testing is a threat to all of us.

Action 1: Contact your members of Congress. Use Democracy.io to contact all three of your representatives in Congress to tell them you oppose the restarting of nuclear weapons testing.

Action 2: Go to the Union of Concerned Scientists web page and use their script for writing to Congress. Support the work of the Union of Concerned Scientists.

WA State Actions:

Join the We Ain’t Buying It Boycott Nov. 27-Dec. 1

Boycott Target, Home Depot, and Amazon Nov 27-Dec 1.Picture
Background
  • WeAintBuyingIt

This Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday, we’re taking a stand against corporations that profit off working people while our government fails us. Join us in a week of economic noncooperation November 27-December 1 to stand together, call out corporations that have sided with greed and injustice, and demand economic justice.

We're Not Buying from Target for dismantling DEI, Amazon for colluding with the administration, and Home Depot for working with ICE.

But that's not all. Because earlier this month, more than 1,000 Starbucks baristas in 40+ cities walked off the job during the Red Cup promotion, demanding fair pay, more staffing, and respect at work. We're calling on you to skip Starbucks, too.

Action: Don’t shop at Target, Amazon, Home Depot, or Starbucks. Shop small and local instead. Donate what you save to local food justice efforts or mutual aid groups.

Local Actions:

Join an Informational Picket to Support Striking Starbucks Baristas

Starbucks Workers United Logo
Starbucks is the second largest fast food company in the world. No contract, no coffee is more than a tagline; it’s a pledge to interrupt Starbucks’ sales and profits until it ends its unfair labor practices and a fair union contract is won.

That’s why Starbucks Workers Union (SBWU) baristas are calling on allies to show up at non-union Starbucks stores and ask customers to buy their coffee elsewhere until a fair contract is won. Every conversation is a chance to grow solidarity and support baristas.

Many people in our community don’t even know that SBWU workers are on strike. Help us spread the word by joining this informational picket.

Where: Starbucks parking lot at 340 Cleveland St. SE, Tumwater, WA
When: Friday, November 28 (the day after Thanksgiving). 9:30 - 11:00am.
What: Show up and connect. Stand outside this non-union store and let people know that SBWU is on strike and why. Have friendly 1:1 conversations with customers about how to support the union baristas by buying their coffee elsewhere until a fair contract is reached (Capital Perks is nearby, 3302 Capitol Blvd SE). Ask customers to please not cross the picket line.

Action 1: Come join the picket line. Share a leaflet. Hand out a 1/4 sheet flyer with key info so people can take it with them and learn more. We will provide these to you.
Bring a homemade sign. Suggested messages:
  • SBWU baristas are on STRIKE; Please don’t cross the picket line
  • No Contract No Coffee
  • SBWU Baristas are striking for fair wages, stable schedules, the end of union busting

Action 2: Take the No Contract, No Coffee! Pledge

Have You Scheduled These Events?

Weekly Olympia Indivisible Gatherings

Come to Olympia Indivisible's Coffee Connection, a weekly Saturday in-person gathering at the Soul Cafe (300 5th Ave. SW, Olympia) at 10am. Support a local business by purchasing a cup of coffee and/or some breakfast, make new friends, and learn about what’s shaking at Olympia Indivisible.

Please note that due to the upcoming holidays, there won’t be meet-ups on November 29, December 20 and 27, and January 3.
