The Senate is going to vote on H.R.4350 the National Defense Authorization Act of 2022 likely this week.

It is an obscene amount of money and unconscionable that we would spend that in a time when families are suffering financially, when Congress is arguing over the cost of the Build Back Better act, which for one year is less than half the military budget and when we are destroying our planet with climate change inaction. Sanity must return to the Senate. You can do what is morally and fiscally right by voting no on H.R.4350.

The Port of Olympia IGNORES Public Input
and Established Guidelines!

​Tell the Tumwater City Council to Reject the Port of Olympia’s Proposed Warehouse Development!

Signs along Center Street in Tumwater signal the Port of Olympia’s Panattoni mega warehouse development is moving forward in spite of continuing public concerns raised about critical issues such as loss of trees and habitat, flooding, environmental protection, health effects of pollution from excessive truck traffic near a school, and much more. These concerns have yet to be adequately addressed in the Port’s Interlocal Agreement (ILA) with the City of Tumwater. 

The Port is now pushing the Tumwater City Council to approve the Interlocal Agreement which gives the green light for a development strongly opposed by members of environmental groups, residents of nearby neighborhoods, and concerned members of the public.

The Port has failed to provide a transparent and democratic process and has ignored the 2018 real estate development guidelines which were created with significant public and stakeholder input for the New Market Industrial Campus. The Port’s Panattoni development should follow the 20-year planning guidelines established in the Real Estate Development Plan for the New Market Industrial Campus and Tumwater Town Center. Areas of public concern should be fully researched and questions sufficiently answered by the Port in its Interlocal Agreement before a vote of approval by the Tumwater City Council.

Action 2: Contact members of the Tumwater City Council before Thanksgiving (November 25) or, at latest, by Monday, November 29.

Pass the Freedom to Vote Act

Time is running out to pass the Freedom to Vote Act and protect our votes from gerrymandering. After the holidays, Republican State legislatures will likely pass even more laws to restrict the right to vote and allow partisan interference in elections. The only way to realistically end gerrymandering is to pass a national law. The Freedom to Vote Act does this in a very effective way. Members of Congress Team Update

The Members of Congress (MoC) Team Regularly meets with our members of congress (Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell and Representative Marilyn Strickland) or their South Sound Directors to discuss Olympia Indivisible’s immediate issues of concern. The next meeting will be on November 23 with Senators Murray and Cantwell. 

An extensive agenda, which includes background on issues and the questions to be asked at the November 23 meeting, is available for your perusal. The team does extensive research on issues and this “agenda” includes interesting information on how the MoC Team interacts with the Senators and their teams. The MoC Team will provide meeting notes after the meeting to inform us on the responses to OI’s questions to the Senators.

On a different topic, unfortunately, Rep. Strickland’s Chief of Staff in DC has informed us through Dontae Payne, her Deputy Director in Lacey, that they will only meet with us quarterly from now on, rather than monthly.
