More than 7 million Americans rejected the smears and fears projected by the Trump regime and showed up across the nation for the single largest peaceful protest in American history. There will be more mass protests in our future–in an era of rapid consolidation of authoritarian overreach, these events hold open civil society space and demonstrate that the movement against tyranny is growing. Effective pushback also requires a broader strategy, one that makes specific demands, exacts specific responses, and demonstrates that democracy is rising and that there is a cost to capitulating to tyranny. Read on for ways to do just this in the coming week: make a difference in our local elections, share your experiences of No Kings, tell our Senators to stand strong on the budget, urge University administrators to reject Trump “Loyalty Oath,” and keep up the pressure to release the Epstein files. Help Our Candidates Win!  The Time is Now! Ballots have dropped and it’s all hands on deck to help local pro-democracy candidates win their races for councils, school boards, and Port win. Action 1: Be a Door Beller! Get out there and ring some doorbells on behalf of candidates. Check out this week’s opportunities in our 2025 Local Elections Campaign Support Events calendar. Get your steps in, visit new neighborhoods, make new friends, and Make a Difference! Action 2: Be a Sign Waver! If you have mobility issues but want to help, be a sign waver! Check out this week’s opportunities on our 2025 Local Elections Campaign Support Events calendar. Action 3: Put Up a Yard Sign! Get a yard sign for OI-recommended candidates and issues! You can pick one up at OI’s 24/7 campaign yard sign hub in SE Olympia. These FREE yard signs are for putting in your own yard. If you live on a well-trafficked street, this invitation is for you! Send an email to [email protected] for address details. Action 4: Share Olympia Indivisible’s 2025 local election recommendations! Print out a couple of copies of this handy half-sheet with OI’s recommended candidates and positions on Proposition 1 and the SJR 8201. Bring it with you to your gym, the grocery store, wherever you’ll meet friends and neighbors. Or, send it as an attachment with a personal email to friends and family who might appreciate your suggestions. Action 5: Vote. If you haven’t received your ballot yet, contact the Thurston County Auditor's Elections Center at (360) 786-5408 as soon as possible. If you haven’t registered yet, there’s still time, but not much! The deadline has passed for online registration, but you can register in person until 8pm November 4. The Washington Secretary of State says using a designated ballot drop box is the most reliable way to vote, especially after October 28. Any ballots postmarked after 8 pm on November 4 are tossed out. Find a designated ballot box and be sure to cast your vote by November 4. Indivisible National Action Tell Your No Kings Story  Tell your story about your experience attending the No Kings 2 event, why you attended, why it matters and what we are defending (democracy) or fighting for (a fairer, better world). Show the peaceful, joyous defiance of authoritarianism in order to push back against the smear propaganda and include some of the stats (biggest peaceful protest in American history). Be loud and proud. Actions: Tell your story in person, share it on social media and add photos or videos (tag it #nokings), and/or write a Letter to the Editor to one of these local papers: LTE Form -- Nisqually Valley News 500 word limit. Source: Indivisible National With historic healthcare cuts and cost increases looming, Republicans chose to force a Trump Shutdown rather than address the healthcare crisis and limit Trump’s lawless manipulation of federal funds. So far, Senate Democrats and Independents (except for Senators King, Cortez Masto, and Fetterman) have held the line to fight for healthcare, defend the rule of law, and block congressional Republicans from handing Trump blank checks. We need to remind them we’re with them – and urge them to keep on fighting! Action: Send Senators Cantwell and Murray an email or call them to applaud them for standing strong, and tell them do not surrender until Republicans offer a fair deal that preserves healthcare and reins Trump in!

Trump’s Republican minions have protected a great many of the Epstein files. They’ve made excuse after excuse, even though the public and many lawmakers are demanding the files and a full investigation. And now, House Speaker Johnson has kept the House in shut down status due to the budget for weeks, which has prevented floor action on the Epstein matter. In the meantime, Democrats and four Republican members have filed a discharge petition to force a vote on a bill to release the Epstein files. They need only one more signature to get the petition to the floor for a vote. That signature could be available right now. A month ago, a new Representative from Arizona won a special election. Rep. Grijalva says she’ll provide the remaining 218th signature needed for the petition as soon as she’s sworn in. But for weeks, Johnson has refused to swear her in. Arizona’s intrepid Attorney General, Kris Mayes, contested Johnson’s unlawful act by filing a lawsuit in US District Court this week. As she says, Johnson’s devious act impermissibly prevents over 800,000 Arizonans from having their constitutionally entitled representation. Thank Attorney General Mayes for her creative leadership. Action 1: Send a thank you email to AG Kris Mayes for filing suit against House Speaker Mike Johnson. Suggested Script: Thank you for powerfully filing a lawsuit against Speaker of the House Michael Johnson. His unlawful refusal to swear into office Adelita Grijalva deprives Arizona citizens of their constitutional right to representation in the House of Representatives. By filing and continuing the lawsuit, you are calling out Speaker Johnson’s devious attempt to block a true investigation of the Epstein matter. Action 2: If you live in CD-10, urge Representative Marilyn Strickland to keep the pressure on Speaker Johnson.
Suggested Script: Please continue to put pressure on Speaker Michael Johnson to swear in Adelita Grijalva and allow the Epstein Files discharge petition to move forward in the House of Representatives. This bipartisan effort has powerful potential to get results. Tell University Leaders to Reject “Loyalty Oath” Compacts  The Trump regime is trying to blackmail schools to let him and his unqualified bureaucrats run our schools. They want to dictate what schools teach, who they admit and hire, what researchers study, and who's able to be safe at school. We need to be united and loud in our opposition to this assault on education, and demand that our universities commit to upholding freedom of speech and to providing an affordable, safe education for all. Students Rise up and Sunrise have created a one-stop letter-writing site to dozens of universities. Action: Visit the letter-writing site, look for a university where you have affiliation as a student, alum, parent, worker, or community member, and send your letter. Make sure that you use the “Edit Subscription Preferences” below the “ADD YOUR NAME” box to uncheck the opt-in to receive updates from all the organizations participating in this effort. Proposition 1 is endorsed by dozens of nonprofits, small businesses, and community organizations as well as Superintendent of Public Instruction Chris Reykdal, Olympia City Council members Jim Cooper, Clark Gilman, and Robert Vanderpool, local unions including UFCW 367 (grocery and retail workers), WFSE 443 (state employees), the Thurston Mason Lewis Central Labor Council – and the more than 13,000 people who put the initiative on the ballot. Action: If you are an Olympia resident, vote Yes on Proposition 1 and drop your ballot in a ballot box (see locations here) or mail it before October 28.
