Weekly Call To Action - August 29, 2021

8/29/2021

Take Two Actions Now:

The Only Way Forward is to Change the Filibuster

Picture
Action 1: Call your Senators and ask them once again to change the filibuster.
  • Senator Patty Murray,  Phone: 253-572-3636 (Tacoma); 202-224-2621‬ (D.C.) or Contact Form
  • Senator Maria Cantwell, Phone 253-572-2281 (Tacoma); 202- 224-3441‬ (D.C.) or Contact Form
  • Email both your MOCs at once using Democracy.io.

Script: My name is ___________. I've been calling Senator ______ for months, urging voting rights protection. I'm going to be blunt.

Senate Democrats must either act to change the filibuster, or we will helplessly watch the GOP destroy democracy. There is no other way forward. I am calling to ask Senator ______ to act now before it is too late.

Afghan Refugees Need Our Help – Let’s Give It!

Picture
Action 2: If you are able to help resettle refugees, here are two local organizations looking for help:

  • The Muslim Association of Puget Sound has a volunteer sign up form.
  • Eastside Refugee and Immigrant Coalition has a volunteer sign up form.

If you are interested in donating, here is a list of refugee resettlement organizations in Washington state.

Joel Hansen is running for Port of Olympia Commissioner and needs our help. Olympia Indivisible has endorsed Joel as a candidate because of his  extensive pertinent experience and commitment to developing an environmentally sustainable economy based on clean energy, living wage jobs and accountability to taxpayers.

Volunteer Opportunities

We have a variety of opportunities, everything from communications and boosting, to organizing events.

  • To volunteer with the Joel Hansen for Port of Olympia campaign, you can visit www.votejoel.org and sign up to volunteer, at which point the campaign will reach out to connect with you for volunteer opportunities.
  • You can also visit the Thurston County Democratic Women’s Head Quarters at 1014 4th Ave E, Olympia, WA 98506 to pick up a literature pack for canvassing.
  • If canvassing isn’t right for you, you can also connect with the campaign via email to find out what other options are available at Info@votejoel.org
  • You can also call Joel’s campaign manager directly at 360-888-2073 to learn more!

OI’s Lacey Residents - See How Carolyn Cox, Running for Lacey City Council, Stands on Transportation

Picture
Intercity Transportation and Complete Streets Program

“As chair of the Intercity Transit Authority, I want to work to restore service to pre-pandemic levels. I also want to grow the transit system to meet public needs and make it more convenient and environmentally friendly. I’m proud of the work I’ve done on the Transit Authority to help bring service to Northeast Lacey and systemwide improvements.

I also support Lacey’s “complete streets” program, which includes sidewalks, bicycle lanes, and other amenities to encourage residents to get out of their vehicles and walk or ride bikes to their destination.”

Find out more about Carolyn Cox on her website.
