SAVE OUR DEMOCRACY We’re On It - Registering Voters in Michigan! Michael Moore, filmmaker and political activist who predicted Trump’s win in 2016, recently cited a CNN poll of registered voters showing that Trump has closed the 4% polling gap and is “on course” for winning Michigan this November. In anticipation of this possibility, progressives in Michigan launched a major project to register 25,000 new voters by the end of September. Twice a week, Olympia Indivisible members will be joining this effort to call left-leaning young people, minorities, and women in Detroit and Lansing. Your help is very much needed. The OI Team will provide easy to follow step-by-step trainings twice a week - Mondays at 12 noon and Fridays at 10 a.m. When you’ve completed the training, we’ll support you as you begin making calls using a user-friendly dialing platform that makes calls from a Michigan area code. If you’ve already taken the training and feel comfortable making calls on your own, join us briefly on Zoom and then begin your calls. This voter registration project runs only for the next four weeks! Register only once for either a Monday or Friday Training on Zoom followed by a Phonebank Session. If you’ve already registered for one of the days and received a Zoom link, the link for that specific day will work for the next session.
It’s Time To Call Out The President For Inciting Political Violence The right to peaceful protest is essential to a democracy. We are now at a point where open violence and shootings at peaceful protests are happening on a regular basis. This is not political protest, it is gang violence, incited by our President. Enough is enough. This summer an alarming pattern of violence has often accompanied lawful public protest. Rather than condemning these acts on behalf of ALL AMERICANS, President Trump is falsely and actively working to promote this violence for his political benefit. According to our National Intelligence leaders, Russia is also actively engaged in a disinformation campaign to incite political violence by trolling conservative social media with false information about Black Lives Matter protesters claiming “they want to take over our communities”. Conservative media such as Fox News is also contributing to this false narrative with the goal of creating fear and uncertainty in our country. You can read more about this here: https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/protests-violence/2020/08/27/3f232e66-e578-11ea-970a-64c73a1c2392_story.html It is time to demand that our Members of Congress speak out publicly and forcefully on this issue and call out President Trump for his part in inciting this violence. While this is a complex issue, condemning ALL VIOLENCE regardless of political beliefs is not complex, it is common sense. It is also urgent to Call out the President for inciting violence to further his re-election chances. ACTION: Call your Members of Congress and demand that they condemn this pattern of violence and identify Trump as the source. Representative Denny Heck (360)459-8514 Senator Patty Murray (253)572=3636 Senator Maria Cantwell (253)572-2281 Script: My name is ___________________, and I am a member of Olympia Indivisible. I am calling because I am alarmed by the pattern of violence that has developed during peaceful protests. I want Senator/Representative __________________ to condemn this pattern of violence and make it clear that Trump is the source of this violence. President Trump’s agenda is to promote fear and incite violence for political reasons. This must stop. Demand The Director Of National Intelligence Must Brief Congress Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA) released the following statement following the cancellation of all election security briefings for the Congress by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence: “The Office of the Director of National Intelligence has informed us that it will no longer provide briefings to Members of Congress, including the House and Senate Intelligence committees, on foreign efforts to interfere in our upcoming election. This is a shocking abdication of its lawful responsibility to keep the Congress currently informed, and a betrayal of the public’s right to know how foreign powers are trying to subvert our democracy. This intelligence belongs to the American people, not the agencies which are its custodian. And the American people have both the right and the need to know that another nation, Russia, is trying to help decide who their president should be. Our MoC's need to speaker out against the action of DNI, it is there duty to inform Congress, so Congress can perform their constitutional authority and oversight on the Executive Branch. https://www.cnn.com/2020/08/29/politics/office-of-director-of-national-intelligence-congress-election-security/index.html ACTION: Call our MoC's and ask them to vociferously condemn the action of the DNI to cancel the in-person intelligence security briefings concerning the interference of foreign agencies in the November Election. A WEEK OF POST OFFICE ACTION - RESULTS! The Action Team would like to thank all of the volunteers who helped hold signs and hand out fliers at the Post Office this past week.
