Weekly Call To Action - June 27, 2021

6/27/2021

Take Two Actions Now!

ACT NOW to Stop the Next 10 Years of GOP Gerrymandering!

Picture

The newspapers and TV news make it sound like S1, The For the People Act has failed. They are dead wrong.

Every Senate Democrat (all 50!) voted in favor of moving the bill forward. The bill is only blocked because of senate filibuster rules requiring a supermajority to proceed.

Unless Democrats can pass voting rights legislation by August, the GOP will gerrymander districts in ways that will stay in place for the next 10 years.

However, there is a way forward!! We must convince our Senators to demand a filibuster exception for S1 and any legislation that protects voting rights. We must remind them that the overwhelming majority of Americans support the For the People Act.

And here’s the good news!

Olympia Indivisible, Grey Indivisible, and Indivisible Tacoma invite you to join us on the steps of our State Legislature in Olympia for a short, peaceful, and uplifting rally to support passage of the For the People Act (S.1). Help us show Congress that Americans want a transparent, trustworthy process where all eligible voters can safely and freely vote.

Our rally is one of 10 taking place across the state of Washington during the June 28-July 9 Congressional recess AND is part of a nationwide coordinated response among over 200 organizations across the country. Learn more about this response and how to take care of yourself and your activism this summer on the Indivisible podcast .

Action 1: Take action right now and register for this crucial rally at our own Capitol Campus on Friday, July 9th. Follow this link to register now and learn the details.

Wondering Who You Should Endorse?

Through OpaVote Voting

Picture

OI members have a chance to make a better future in Thurston County. How? Participate in Olympia Indivisible’s Opavote Endorsement Vote for candidates for the Port of Olympia and Lacey City Council races.

Remember you are not voting for your own Port District or for the Lacey Council seats, but for the candidates that Olympia Indivisible should endorse. Candidates value endorsements from Olympia Indivisible and use it in their campaigns.

Visit the OI website to find out about the candidates and why OI is interested in endorsing candidates for these positions. In a hurry? Use the “Slides” link to see a quick summary of the candidates.

You received a ballot yesterday Saturday, June 26, from OpaVote Voting Link, with the subject line: Olympia Indivisible Ballot to Endorse 2021 Candidates.

Action 2: Find your OpaVote in your email and vote! Voting is open for one week and ends Friday, July 2 at 5 PM.

Further questions about your ballot and the voting process read this or email Andrew at OIVotes@gmail.com
