Weekly Call To Action - March 1, 2026

2/28/2026

Quote of the Week:

“While the rapid responders I spoke with were proud that Minneapolis did not cower in the face of deadly repression, but instead sprang into greater, more determined action, they also warned people in other cities not to wait for a heartbreaking, galvanizing event before organizing fiercely. ‘Two of our neighbors are dead, another person was shot in the leg,’ Sasha said. ‘We shouldn't wait until they kill the next person to be as fucking pissed off as we all collectively have been about this situation.’” – Kelly Hayes, “‘We Belong to Each Other Now’: Lessons from Minneapolis.” February 22, 2026

Curb Pete Hegseth and the AI Doomsday Machine

Which is more important — allowing Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to use artificial intelligence (AI) however he wants, or preventing AI from spying on us, manipulating us, and creating lethal weapons without human oversight?

AI has tremendous potential for world-changing good or evil. Now is the time to put guardrails on it — but corporate greed and the Trump regime stand in the way. Corporations fund politicians who’ll do their bidding; corrupt Trump officials have financial stakes in AI. And to authoritarians, unrestricted AI offers mass surveillance, propaganda indistinguishable from fact, and autonomous weapons.

Anthropic PBC is one of the most safety-conscious AI companies. Its CEO Dario Amodei has battled the Trump regime, advocating state and federal AI guardrails. He and Hegseth have fought over the Pentagon’s use of Anthropic’s AI “Claude.” Amodei insists: no domestic surveillance, no autonomous lethal weapons without human control. Last Tuesday, Hegseth issued an ultimatum: either Anthropic allows the Pentagon to use Claude for anything, or the regime invokes the Defense Production Act, authorizing the Pentagon to use Claude however it will for nothing, and putting all Anthropic’s government contracts at risk.

This isn’t just a dispute between two men. The outcome could affect humanity’s future.

Action: Contact your Members of Congress and tell them you don’t want the Defense Department to take Anthropic’s AI technology, and you do want strict controls on the use of AI.
  • Senator Patty Murray, Phone: 253-572-3636 (Tacoma); 202-224-2621‬ (DC), if voicemails are full, call any regional office or email Contact Form
  • Senator Maria Cantwell, Phone 253-572-2281 (Tacoma); 202-224-3441‬ (DC) if voicemails are full, call any regional office or Contact Form
  • Email both at once using Democracy.io.
Script: As a constituent, I need you to stop the Defense Department from taking Anthropic’s AI technology for unregulated and uncompensated use under the Defense Production Act. AI presents both tremendous possibilities and tremendous hazards to our democracy and human life. We need strict guardrails governing its use in order to protect our privacy, civil liberties, and democracy. And we need them now.

Our Senators must Fight the SAVE Act via Filibuster

Background:
  • What is the SAVE Act, and why are Democrats opposed to Trump’s pitch
  • NPR A new SAVE Act is Back

House Republicans just passed the SAVE Act. It’s even worse than it was. Trump claims if the SAVE Act passes the Senate “Republicans will win every election for the next 50 years”. That’s because the Act guarantees a wide swath of Democrat voters will lose their ability to vote,  especially those without ready access to passports or birth certificates. Minorities and women also will be disenfranchised. The states would be required to send voters' information to DHS.

The SAVE act is so important that Sen. Chuck Schumer has publicly vowed to block its final vote in the Senate via filibuster. Filibusters are rarely used maneuvers used by the minority party to ‘kill a bill.’ This rarely used maneuver can The bill is prevented from proceeding to a Senate vote, as long as Democrats continue via debate and speeches to hold onto the floor.

We can’t let our voting laws be eviscerated. Ask our Senators to support a filibuster as an alternative way they can prevent the dangerous SAVE Act from passing, in addition to Indivisible’s CTA.

Action 1: Contact your Members of Congress:
  • Senator Patty Murray, Phone: 253-572-3636 (Tacoma); 202-224-2621‬ (DC), if voicemails are full, call any regional office or email Contact Form
  • Senator Maria Cantwell, Phone 253-572-2281 (Tacoma); 202-224-3441‬ (DC) if voicemails are full, call any regional office or Contact Form

Script: I thank you for your strong work to address all the many issues that have hurt Democrats since President Trump’s election. I’m writing to urge you to fight the SAVE Act in every possible way. As the bill comes to the Senate floor, it is extremely important for you to support Senator Schumer’s filibuster. We absolutely need retention of our fair voting system in order to uphold the mid-term elections this fall.

Action 2: Olympia Indivisible members, contact your Senators via national forms. Use them to personally send a national request on voting against the Save Act.
